Strength:

luminous, versatile, handy, sharp

Weakness:

focus is a bit slow,
lens hood gets hurt all the time

The all around lens, not so heavy, large domain of use. Always mounted on an old EOS 10 body. I shoot mainly people, street scenes and a bit of landscape.

Sharpnes is not top rated but that's beyond my ability to notice.

Distorsion is not well rated neither and I stay on 35mm when geometric shapes are an issue.
The hood is a real bumper and like any bumper gets dammaged if overused.

Take care when shooting with a flash, I have surimpressed a whole roll with the hood shadow.

Forget all the trendy expensive things, get this stone with an old body for less than 1'000$ and concentrate on shooting.

Strength:

Solid as a rock and tack sharp.

Weakness:

A bit heavy, but that's to be expected of pro lenses.

I paid premium price for this lens 11 years ago when it was the only game in town and have never regretted it. Sharp, contrasty and reliable as an old shoe. I'm about to upgrade my system and this is the only piece I WILL NOT change. I'll buy a 17mm and a 14mm to fill the gaps at the low end for about the additional cost of trading it in on a 17-35L. This lens is too good to part with and has far less distortion than the 17-35L.

Model Reviewed: EF 20-35 f/2.8L

Strength:

Unbelievable sharpness. Large aperature. Very sturdy (metal body). Affordable (compared to 17-35mm).

Weakness:

No USM motor, so focusing is loud and not as fast.

This is a fantastic wide angle Canon lens that was discontinued in 1998 (I think). It is very fast, very sturdy, and very sharp, great for landscape photography. Also very good for architecture. The lack of USM, and slower AF is not so important given the lens' focal range (nothing will get out of your viewfinder before the lens can focus!). Best thing is the cost (will run you about half of what the Canon 17-35mm pro lens goes for).
