Strength:

Build quality Zoom range IS Image quality

Weakness:

Expensive - but you pay for what you get

This is a welcome adition to Canon's premier lens collection and completes the f4 line-up. A very useful range on all types of digital slr from full frame to 1.6x crop. In use it is superb - not as heavy as the 24-70L and, in good light easily matches its more established cousin in the mid-range zoom category. The addition of IS is most welcome when the shutter speed drops and more than makes up for the loss of one stop of light. Images are crisp, contrasty and have excellent colour as you would expect from an L lens. Build quality is, as expected, top draw. What sets it apart however is the zoom range which is ideal for location and people photography

Strength:

24-105 range very good IS acceptable weight low flare

Weakness:

some vignetting on ff-chip visible distorsion on 24-50mm

Solid Lens for EOS 5D (bought as kit)with an nice range and an acceptable over all performance. Not as good as expected for an L lens. But also not bad. Who needs 24 mm with less distorsion, don't bough this lens! Who needs no vignetting at <50mm at 4 to 8 with an FF-chip, dont bough this lens! Who needs IS, bough this lens! Unbelievable sharp 24mm shoots with 0,5s at 4 free hand are possible. This lens will never bee an hero in the series of L lenses from Canon. But there is a place for it.

Strength:

Image quality Build IS

Weakness:

None. Better been 20-100mm

I use it on my 20D and gives me a practical zoom range from 38 to 168 mm. Well build. Size and weight are in good balance with 20D (and even better with BP). AF is super fast and accurate. F/4 is useable aperture. 105mm (168mm), f/4 and 1/25s with IS gives printsharp pictures! FF lens on the APS-C sensor has no vignette or distortion. 77mm Filter thread is same as my 10-22mm and 70-200mm.
