Strength:

build quality sharp contrasty colour

Weakness:

I am not complaining about the weight but shooting with 1n body and booster, 70-200 2.8 and 550EX, you know what I mean.

I bought this lens to replace the 70-200 F4 which I have owned for over 1 year and very happy with it. The F4 produces very sharp, highly contrasty and saturated colours images and also very light for L lens, however I have dicided I need one more stop for my daughter basketball shots and my son's Tae Kwon Do fights, both are indoor, therefore low light and require high shutter speeds. This lens produces the same quality images as with the F4 but also allows for more room to deasl with poor lighting condition. The price to pay is its weight which I am well aware of. Its build quality is of course more substantial than the F4, including the large beautiful hood.

Strength:

Fast, Quiet focusing. Solid built lens. 77mm filters Canon reliability

Weakness:

None that I have found so far.

I waited for the past two years to purchase one of these lenses. I was apprehensive about buying one as I owned a Sigma 70-200mm HSM lens that I thought was as good as the Canon. What an oversight!!! This Canon blows away the Sigma as far as focusing and is very sharp. Not to knock down the Sigma which also has very good resolution. If you have the bucks to afford the Canon, it is definitely worth it. I had the Sigma and enjoyed it, but sure wish I could have bought the Canon a couple of years back. This lens rocks...

Strength:

Tanklike, high quality mechanics and optic, fast constant 2.8, 100% control quality and durability, total compatibility with Canon line.

Weakness:

No engraved marks, but cheap stenciled. white finishing scratches with relative facility, high price, heavy, bulky, big filter.

No Dust, No splashes. Fast and quite autofocus. Sharp and contrasty. Even with ISO 800 i could see myself ( and the lens) in the eyes of my daughter. In an eos620 with weak battery the focus was ok with a smaller lenses, and this lens could not to set proper focus.

Customer Service

I tried to get the tripod colar, I called 2 Canon authorized and had no response. I tried one local store who tell me that was needed to send the lens to the authorized store( in another satate)to put the collar on the lens. These guys must be of Urano or outer space! Does your country have a really qualified Canon service? Brazil haven´t.

Strength:

sharp as anything

Weakness:

This is a excellent lens for photojournalism. I love the color is sooooooooo crisp, who needs the stabilizer model. I bet this ones sharper than the IS verion(my opinion) Sharp slides and prints were contrasty. It is built like a tank and I like the white color. no I take it back if I had the dough I'd but the IS version but since I'm now a full time sports photographer then I'll be using my 400 2.8 IS lens.

Strength:

Weakness:

sometimes a bit heavy - but it is allways worth the weight

This was my first L Lens, which I bougth used. This lens was the final push I needed to shift from Nikon to Canon. Wow what a lens!!! While the sharpness, which is awsome, is not superior to the old 80-200 Nikon, the color rendition and contrast clearly is! The AF of this (old) lens is clearly faster than the AF-S Nikon. It is 300 gr lighter than the Nikon.

Quite simply, OUTSTANDING results. Having taken dog show photographs at varying venues, this lens suits them all. From the poorly lit local indoor venues, to the brightly lit Championship venues, this lens copes with it all. Image sharpness is faultless, focusing is instant, silent and reliable and above all, this lens provides consistent results. Used on my Canon EOS 10D, I find this combination the marriage of a lifetime. I find I am getting better results with this lens, than when previously using fixed focal length lenses from Canon. I have tried the Sigma variant a few times, and although the results were excellent, I find it will never have the feel and response of this Canon beauty. As my Basset Hound would probably say, "this lens is DROOLY wonderful".

Strength:

Sharp, contrasty photos. Beutiful bokeh. Fast. Easy to use with the zoom ring. Works well with 1.4 and 2X teleconvertors.

Weakness:

None.

One of the most impressive lenses I have ever used. Just superb. I was renting this lens so frequently for motorsports work that I finally broke down and bought one. After using both the IS and non-IS versions, I opted for the non-IS because I felt I got sharper photos with it than the IS version. All in all, I can't say enough good things about this lens...it is fantastic. Easy to shoot handheld, I get incredible results with it. I use it whenever possible. This lens is fast, sharp, and contrasty. This is one of the most impressive lenses I've ever used. If you aren't shooting at low shutter speeds in low-light, don't spend the extra $600 on the IS....you won't need it.

Strength:

Excellent optics, fast lens.

Weakness:

Heavy - not a complaint, but it is a weakness.

I purchased this MINT lens used for $1400 Canadian (roughly $1000 US). This lens is absolutely awesome. The autofocus is fast, the pics are very sharp. Also, this lens gets attention! Whether that is good or bad is for you to decide. I just took pics at the Molson Indy in Vancouver, I approached the Molson Indy girls who were being photographed by 5-6 people. These girls saw my big white Cannon (no pun intended)and immediately moved to pose for me....I said nothing. I guess they assumed I was a Professional. The lens is very heavy due to its solid build. I like this as it is a sign of quality to me, but it is a little much to carry around for any length of time.

Customer Service

Not required as of yet...but since it is a used lens I will be on my own anyway.

I was Brain washed, by my dad. He had said that the L on Canon lenses did nothing. I had to make up my mind for myself. So I bought the 70-200 2.8 L. Fell in LOVE! Sold all my other lenses, and bought all L lenses.
