Contax Vario-Sonnar T * 24-85mm F3.5-4.5 Lens 35mm Zoom

Contax Vario-Sonnar T * 24-85mm F3.5-4.5 Lens 35mm Zoom

DESCRIPTION

This is a standard zoom lens covering focal lengths from ultra-wide angle to medium range; with the zoom covering the whole area. The minimum shooting distance is 50 cm. The lens is made of two molded glass aspheric lenses and two anomalous dispersion glasses, giving the same degree of optical performance as a fixed focal point lens. Even at wide angles the amount of distortion is very tightly controlled, allowing natural-looking definition.

Strength:

range
sharp
distortion under control
beautiful colors and contrast
build quility
fast focusing

Weakness:

quite large and heavy
filter size
expensive
no macro setting

It is very sharp, yes, but it really did not blow my stopped-down Nikon out of the water which was MUCH cheaper and lighter. What makes it a superior lens, and in my opinion sets it apart from the rest, is that it is already very good wide open (my Nikon wasn't), and it has very little distortion at 24 mm (my Nikon REALLY didn't). Color and contrast are excellent, it has a great range for travel photography and solid build quality to boot. It is more expensive, larger and heavier than the 24-xx competition, but if you want the best, this is the one to get. Sharpness-nuts should stick with primes, period. I changed from Nikon to Contax in order to have access to their new AF lenses.
