This is a great lens, sharp, rich and natural colours, very good contrast. This lens took me by surprise while browsing pictures taken few months back (I bought it as another cheap Minolta zoom). After upgrading from a99 to mkii, I rather take this lens on a sunny day as a walk around lens instead of Sony Carl Zeiss 24-70/2.8 because of the lower weight and the bit longer reach.

Original lens hood may be hard to find.

Sharp, Lightweight, Versatile, Excellent quality construction. A great choice for travelers or families/photographers who want to carry fewer lenses but be ready to respond to a variety of shooting applications requiring different focal lengths.

None as far as the lens is concerned. It however you want to shoot portraits, or into a crowd, you may want a longer lens. I am presently considering the new 24-105mm Minolta AF lens.

I have owned this lens since 1995. It's a remarkably versatile lens that gives you great freedom in that its focal ranges cover a multitude of situations. Very sharp images, light weight, solidly built.
