Strength:

little, not so heavy, good quality lens, contrasty,

Weakness:

Work with special effects filter quite annoying.

I have a Minolta Dynax 7700i with 35/105 mm zoom lens, I can tell this lens is quite good and results with negative films and slides films are okay. I have really made some nice portraits (20 x 30 cm)both 80mm and 105mm.

Strength:

small, lightwight

Weakness:

Vignetting, resolution

I bought this lens to replace my old, heavy-metal Minolta AF 28-85 since I thougt i'd match better between my 20mm and 200mm prime lenses. The image-quality however was not that good (not to compare with the 28-85mm), especially wide open (vignetting) it's useless for slide photography. Not recommended for serious use. PS the old version (longer, full metal) is said to be much better

Strength:

Built quality Lens quality Cheap on 2nd Market Light, perfect for travel.

Weakness:

None that I could think of.

Bring this lens with me for UK trip on Dec/Jan, took 10 rolls of films... It is a very sharp lens yet very light and compact, Macro function is useful. Very sharp at all f-stops...

Strength:

I like the Macro switch and the pictures it takes - very clear and sharper than other lenses. Made out of metal and very durable and medium weight. The cost is also great.

Weakness:

Wish the front doesn't move when autofocus - which in turn makes filters hard to use, other than that, A great lens to have!!

I have the Minolta AF 35-105mm f2.5-4.5 with the macro switch (no longer available on Maxxum lens). This is a really great lens for any photographer who is serious into photography. This is a must have for wide angle to portrait and with the Macro switch, you can get any close-ups you want to. I really love the lens for the compact size and great medium weight. The metal feel is really great and no longer made in newer Maxxum lenses. Feels great like a Rolex or a Mercedes brand of things. The pictures are sharp and clearer that my other lenses - Sigmas and Quantaray. I highly recommend this lens for it's cost and the work it gives. Get it while they last at a great price. I think I will buy a second just in case.

Strength:

Small and good range. Maybe ok for paper prints.

Weakness:

Not that sharp. No magic. Slow and noisy.

I was travelling in south america('92) when my old Pentax ME Super broke down(waterdamage). I bought a Minolta Dynax 8000i and this zoom. Short after that I quit photography because my new camera was nothing compared to my old Pentax. One year ago a got a used 50mm minolta prime (1,7) and I realized that it wasn't such a bad camera after all. In fact it has become a favourite. But the zoom still not impress me.

Strength:

Very small and compact.

Weakness:

Rotating front focus barrel makes using special effect filters awkward.

If you are looking for a versatile lens to stay on your camera for most of the time whilst not being too bulky, then this is the lens to have. I use this lens on a 5xi and have had some great results. It is very small in size for it''s range. Colour rendition, contrast and clarity is excellent.
