Strength:

Cheap and easily available secondhand. Small size means it doesn't shield built-in flash. Lightweight. Produces pleasantly sharp pictures. Has a useful 'macro' facility (1:4).

Weakness:

Noticeable barrel distortion @ 35mm Slight tendency to flare. Autofocus is a touch noisy and AF speed is average. Closest focussing distance is 1m, which can be a bit annoying when you're short of space indoors. Build quality is good.

A compact lens which produces sharp pictures. Very useful if you like to use the built-in flash a lot, as it doesn't block the flash output, even with the lens hood on. Have used it on my 600si and 500si, and autofocus speed is adequate. I have found this lens to be ideal when you don't want to carry around a heavy lens. Available cheaply and is a really great bargain for Minolta AF users.
