Strength:

Phenomenal optical quality
Built like a tank!
Handles extremely well
Highly versatile

Weakness:

Close focusing limit is not as good as primes... but that goes with the territory. Not a weakness of this specific lens.

Phenomenal. What an amazingly versatile lens. Eye-popping sharpness - Velvia transparencies leap of the lightbox and smack you in the face! Without doubt, the finest W/A zoom I've ever used. Results equal my previous bag full of primes. Not cheap - or lightweight - but it delivers, and that's what counts.

Strength:

Sharpness. Angle.

Weakness:

Expensive. Flimsy sunhood (HB18). Not much range.

The lens seems to underexpose the pictures slightly. Used at f/2.8 the results come out very well exposed. Increased to f/5.6 it gives me a 1/3 stops underexposure. Used at f/11 it gives me an underexposure of about 1/2 step. A bit annoying but acceptable. Very sharp lens indeed but gives every now and then a slight color shift towards yellow. I find this lens extremely useful and well worth its money. It has now replaced my 28-105. 50 f/1.8 prime lens and 80-200 f/2.8 makes a wonderful combo with this keeper.

Strength:

Weakness:

A bit of vinegretting will occur at 20mm if you use a filter. You can avoid this by using a thin wide angle filter. This can get quite expensive.

It is a wonderfully sharp, fast and versitile lens. I love it! Although now Nikon has a 17mm-35mm that I am anxious to try and compare the difference.

Strength:

Extremely flexible, fast, sharp. Always looking for an excuse to use this one. It is fun to use in unexpected ways.

Weakness:

Some unexpected fuzziness until I practiced with depth of field. There is not a depth of field scale, but familiarity has overcome this.

This lense rewards time spent learning its characteristics. I have used it from subzero to scorching weather and it has not let me down. Buy the lense hood too.

Strength:

Focal length range.
Solid, smooth focusing.

Weakness:

Vignetting and unsharp edges, particularly at the 20mm end.

Frankly, I am disappointed with this lens. For the $1900 I paid, I expect better sharpness.

It IS bright and solid, and the focal length range is a useful one. But I should have bought the 24-50mm instead, saved a huge amount of money, and gotten something with Close Range Correction and much lighter weight.
