Strength:

Compact and well balanced. Tack sharp.
Smooth fast focus.

Weakness:

Macro setting has a small fall off in edge sharpness.

I use this lens everyday. I have never found it to deliver a poor image. It should be in every Nikon owners bag.

Strength:

Useful range, reasonably fast, convenient size (to carry around).

Weakness:

Aperture ring is not as easily accessible as on some other lenses.

A quality optic at a reasonable price. I bought this lens to replace my 35-80mm f4-5.6, with the intention of getting a faster lens with a larger focal range. This lens fit the bill well.

If you stack filters (UV and polarizer, for instance) there will be serious vignetting if used wide open. Even at f8 or so, vignetting is noticeable.

Unfortunately, it is not as sharp as my primes or 80-200 f2.8, but that is to be expected.

Strength:

A well balanced high quality optic. I've run about ten rolls of slide film by this lens so far and have been very impressed with the results. The lens has a nice balance, focuses quickly, and the actual minimum focusing distance turns out to be only half of what is quoted in the Nikon catalog (typo?)

Weakness:

No problems. The only (very small)gripe is that the front element rotates when zooming. A minor annoyance with polarizers and ND grads

An excellent lens that far outperforms the Sigma 35-135 it replaced. At a street price of around $300 this lens is a bargain.
