Strength:

Versatility.

Weakness:

Distorsion at 28mm.

A versatile zoom lens, at a reasonable price. Good sharpness, but less than my Nikon AF18-35D. A lot of distorsion at 28 mm.

Strength:

Compact. Relatively sharp.
Great "point-and-shoot" lens.

Weakness:

Nothing that's the lens' fault.
Could be faster,
could have a bigger range.

The lens itself has given me no problems whatsoever.
I wish I'd splurged for the 24-120; I miss the extra 4mm at the wide end, and 70mm isn't long enough for what I'd like. It's also a bit slow. The 35-70 2.8 is even narrower in range, and VERY expensive.
But for the money this lens is terrific.

Model Reviewed: AF28-70mm f/3.5-4.5D Zoom-Nikkor

Strength:

Inexpensive and relatively light, it is a veru good travel/casual lens that delivers fairly good results.

Weakness:

Slow apertures make low light shooting a chore. Autofocus isn't very quick, if that's crucial to you. Images are good but softer then higher quality zooms- above 8x10 this becomes quite obvious, fairly good up till then. Seems a bit more prone to flare than other lenses, even when using a hood.

A great lens for casual users or as a general use lens for amateurs. For students I would recommend the very sharp and affordable 50/1.8. This lens is most useful as a do-all midrange zoom for travel. As you photography grows more demanding though, you will probably find yourself replacing this lens with primes or higher quality zooms. I use mine as a backup or bright light lens.

Strength:

Inexpensive, but very good small lens.

Weakness:

Very good, fairly inexpensive lens for general use. Matches real well with either the N70 or N90s. Small with a decent zoom range. Very good sharpness and very little flare. In my opinion it is better, and more expensive, than the 35-80 zoom lens that Nikon markets.
