Strength:

No one! Neither the price: too low quality.

Weakness:

Sharpness Contrast General quality

I'm not an expert, but this zoom is the worst I've ever used: under the sun light the sharpness is not great thing, but if the sun disappear you cannot shot photos: my litte Olympus Mju-2 is far better than this zoom! No sharpness, no contrast, bad colors. It's good only to make a gift to your worst enemy!

Strength:

Cheap, light, clear.

Weakness:

plastic mount, no aperture ring

I got this lense in a package with my F80. Because of its plastic made,it has cause many people to be prejudice against it. I can't say it is absolutely good but it does work quite well. images are sharp and the colour is great. it is good for outdoor photo on a sunny day but not so good on an overcast weather.

Strength:

Price and range

Weakness:

picture quality not good in low light

This is a very good lens for Landscape and just OK for Portraits. Since the aperture is not very wide, there are constraints in using it for Indoor and outdoor with overcast weather. For Bright sunny weather the pictures are very good. Use of flash is ideal for Indoor photography. I would suggest this as a good value for money lens for Landscape for beginners. Not recommended for Portraits.

Strength:

Color, sharpness and a surprising lack of distortion.

Weakness:

It's plastic.

After trading in the vastly over-rated Maxxum 5 for a N80, I strapped on this consumer-grade lens expecting to return it for something a bit sexier. This lens is a keeper, though. Tack sharp, vivid color rendition and minimal distortion even at 80mm. It absolutely *buries* Minolta, Canon and Sigma consumer lenses. No, it isn't a $1500 VR lens, but if there is a better zoom lens out there for $80 I'd love to know who makes it...

Strength:

Good optics for such price. I didn''t used wide angles and didn''t use this lens often, but quality for others angles at 15x20cm prints was enough for me.

Weakness:

Slow lens, F&CKING BAD build quality, heavy flare. Cheap zoom lens!

I got it with new F65 in December. Not really want it but have no option. Optics may be good for such price, but built quality. Men, it''s disaster! I even afraid to put this lens into bayonet - it seems so fragile! I take care about my equipment and don''t use it hard... But this one just can''t live long life!!! It was broken after less than month usage. This "plastic mount" simply crashed while being attached to body! Don''t think what I beat them to walls! May be it just don''t like our winter... Even if it still was usable (mechanics works fine and optics looks good) I sold it for 20$ and was happy! I''ll never buy it again, it''s just silly to buy it!!!

Strength:

Good contrast, easy to handle, lightweight, excellent for travelling.

Weakness:

Front of lense feels a little loose and no aperture ring or focus numbers anywhere.

I got this lens with my N80. I have shot five rolls of film with it on my camera and am pleasantly surprised with the results. The lense at first felt a little light and shakey, but now that I see the results I am quite pleased. I shot a roll of ISO 120 B&W and now I shoot almost exclusively with Ilford HP5 PLus ISO 400, and I am getting great results.

Strength:

Light (Portable!)

Weakness:

No aperture ring (not suitable for some Nikon bodies)

Come mo'' friendS~! how can you expect an US$100 lens to function like an US$1000 lens? It neither have an ED glass or Vibration Reduction system, not an ultra wide angle or a super-telephoto lens, but it can be a good multi-purpose lens if you know how to utilise it. A 0.35m focusing distance allows possible mirco shooting. Light? Portable! Cheap plastic feel? i don''t think so. A great-start-lens for beginners.

Strength:

Cheap.

Weakness:

Mechanical quality.

This is most strange lens that I’ve ever seen. I took it just for the test to my new camera body. All plastic mount and week contracted with failing front lens but it is a good performer! For midrange zoom lens for less than $100 it is a nice piece. I’ve taken pictures with my new F80 (amazing camera!) in/out door with/out flash and can say that for common purpose shutting it is definitely OK. The pictures sharp and natural colored. The contrast may be little better, but it is absolutely acceptable. The AF works fast and precise with it. I retired this lens and changed it to Nikon 28-200, for the main reason that it is very poor mechanically

Customer Service

So far so good ;))

Strength:

Lightweight Great optics

Weakness:

No distance scale

Got this lens alongwith the F65. Available here in India for Rs 4200/- (less than $100). Lightweight lens with a polycarbonate mount (some people call it cheap plastic...???). Has good optics and pictures taken at all ranges from 28-80, in daylight or with built in speedlight are very sharp. The lens does not have an aperture ring, as that is controlled by the camera. It does''nt have a distance scale, that kinda strange. Overall a d*** good piece of equipment, which works very well with my F65. Excellent value for money.

Weakness:

Nothing for this class of lenses

Very nice lens in new Nikon G-type line. Works very well with my N80. The lens produce amazing quality pictures. I'm very impressed with result (sharpness and colors are excellent). I wish Nikon will made 28-105 or 28-135 G-type lenses in future-that will be really nice (additional to 70-300 G lens which is also excellent lens). Don't listen people who will give low rating this lens just because the lens has plastic mount rather metal. No way plastic mount wil effect the picture quality but will save some your money in your wallet. I want thank Nikon for there consumer lenses. They put excellent glass in inexpencive "plastic feel" , "plastic mount" bodies.
