Weakness:

Lens hood is a pain, but makes nice body armor when lens isn't on camera.
Manual focus ring a little on the thin side.

For the price this lens is a great value, the pictures I have gotten have back have been surprisingly sharp, with very good color and contrast. But then 70% of my pictures are taken from a tripod, 20% are taken on a nice monopod. The remaining 10% are handheld with shutter speeds above 250. Are you doing this?? why not! I've taken a 4x6 from iso100 film, enlarged 1/3 of the image to 8x10 and got very exceptable results. Sure it got a little soft, but it was still usable for home use. I thought I'd be wasting the money, but the print is currently framed on my wall.

I plan to enhance this lens with either the Nikkor 2.8D 80-200 ED IF or the Sigma 2.8 80-200 for half the price, and actually it shows to have better edge to edge sharpness than the Nikkor at many lens settings. After reviewing the results I get with this lens (75-240) when I do purchase the better lens, this one I'll still be keeping. It's weight makes it so nice for extended hiking, which lets me take a little extra gear with me.

If your not making money with your camera, then you will not go wrong buying this lens!!!

Strength:

light, cheap, sturdy hood, 52mm filters

Weakness:

quite slow to focus, and otherwise slow,

Overall I am satisfied, but if I had the choice again, I would consider seriously the 70-300mm for a similar price. It is sooo dark at 240mm, that finding a subject at low light past 150mm is difficult.
