Strength:
Super sharp. Compact. Fast AF-S focus. Takes 77mm filters.
Weakness:
Nikon switched the positions of the focus and zoom rings on the lens, which takes some getting used to. The DOF markings on the lens are not terribly usable. This lens replaced my 20-35 f2.8 on a D100, and I can't tell you how happy I am to have true wide-angle back. I was debating between the Nikon and Sigma 12-24 lenses, but size, focusing speed and the fact that filters don't fit on the front element of the Sigma lens pushed me toward the Nikon. A 2.8 maximum aperature would be nice, but that would have pushed the price up another $500, and I can deal with one stop of lost light for the 18-35 digital equivalent. All images with this lens are sharp and contrasty, especially so at f8 and beyond. Well worth it. Customer Service No experience. Similar Products Used: Nikon 20-35 f2.8, 14 f2.8 |

Strength:
wide coverage, fast focus, sharp and nice colours
Weakness:
pictures at the 12mm end looks very 'flat' makes ppl look like a piece of cupboard. eyeing for this lens since nikon announced it.it gives appox.18-35 coverage(ful frame conversion) and its wonderful for coverage of event when there is no luxury of space and when you really need to squeeze you way to get a good shot. great for wedding shoots too. However do be careful not to place people too much off center. although they will not be much distortion, the picture lacks the 3D effect. if you shoot with the man at the edge of the frame, they will look like a piece of cupboard when you get your prints back. lens is sharp with fast focus and great colours Customer Service never used them before Similar Products Used: tokina 17 ATX, 17-35AFS, tokina 20-35ATX |

Strength:
Sharp, Low Distortions, Light Weight, Internal Zoom and Focus, Lower Price than the 14mm or the 17-35mm. A constant f4 aperture and not something like a f3.5/4.5.5
Weakness:
Zoom ring, like many new G lenses, have been moved to front of the focusing ring, and it takes time getting used to it. G lens design with no aperture ring, but you can't use this lens on film camera anyway, and like it or not, this is the future design, better get used to it. f4 rather than f2.8 if you need the speed.. Have been waiting for the lens since it was annouced. I finally got it on July 5, 2003. It is Nikon's answer to wideangle digital image without going with a full size chip camera. The 12-24mm is internal zoom and internal focus, shares the same hood with the 17-35mm [HB-23]. It is pretty sharp, the 17-35mm and the 14mm maybe a hair sharper, too close to call in most applications, and distortion is rather low for a 12-24mm focal length. The advantage for being able to carry one lens [wider than 14mm at the same time], a much lighter lens, being able to put a 77mm filter in front [verses the 14mm's exposed front element] far outweight any disadvantage this lens might have [and there are not many].t Customer Service Not Needed.
