    Strength:

Lighweight Wide (even for digital) SWM - fast focus + all-time-manual focus Value for money

    Weakness:

"cheap" feeling some distortion less sharp than "pro" lenses

Very nice lens for the money paid - light, almost x4 zoom, comes with a hood. Not a match to the more expensive 2.8 lenses, but we're talking consumer goods here.

    Strength:

Good price, well made, sharp, fast focus, excellent colors.

    Weakness:

Not a metal construction, some distortions and flare.

A great lens for what I paid for it. It seems dishonest to me to compare this lens to much more expensive zooms or fixed focal length lenses. A $1000+ lens would not sell if it did not offer something for all that money. I get very sharp pictures with this lens, contrast is excellent and colors are great. I did find there is some moderate distortion (fix it in photoshop) and in some shots a bit too much flare. It is worth investing in Nikon Capture, which has several features to make correctons (if you shoot RAW format) including for vignetting (which is not too bad with this lens anyway.)

    Strength:

Great sharpness at open aperture Great FOV (27-105 eqiv) FTM support Rubber sealing Small, light

    Weakness:

Light falloff Distortion at wide end Focusing a bit slow uncomfortable zoom ring position

This lens is quite amazing: Very small and light, quite fast for its FOV range and is really sharp at every focal length wide-open. I compared this lens with other high-qualty zoom lens and even with prime lenses, but this lens was on par with other more expensive lenses. And, when I compared this lens with 18-50 (Which is preet good lens for its price) this lens at open aperture was more sharper than 18-50@f8.

    Strength:

Great multi-coating Great focal length and aperture Fast focus

    Weakness:

It's a DX,G - cannot use it on my FE Finish - the painted barrel markings will probably wear off in a very short time

Used the lens for just over a week now and had a chance to try some landscapes and portraits The portraits were amazing - nice skin tones with a soft appearance Landscapes were hurried but came out very well Very impressed with the Nikon multi-coat - nice colours and very little flare considering the size of the front element - always have been impressed with that from Nikon Seems to work well - quick to focus - even in manual mode Nice focal length range Have not yet experienced image problems (distortion + vignetting)as reported in other reviews - but I seldom shoot wide open and landscapes make it tough to spot distortion (unless it's buildings I have to take a point off for it being a DX and a G (i.e. no aperture ring) But it out performs my Sigma in every department - especially flare

    Strength:

Very compact and light; on a DSLR it gives an equivalent focal range of a 27-105, very useful. Nice sharpness.

    Weakness:

It's a DX; not still experienced, but I think it will have the same dust problems of the 24-85 on internal lenses.

I bought this lens giving back my AF-S 24-85 f3.5-4.5 IF-ED and 90€ (original price was 450 €). I needed a wider lens, so I decided to change my previous general purpose lens for this one; it shows a heavy barrel distortion at 18 mm, that's gone from 24 mm, and little pincushion from 50 mm; average light fall off on corners at full aperture; very good sharpness starting from f5.6 through f16. I didn't notice strong color aberration; just a little on heavy contrast zone, on border. It has the same feel&touch of 24-85 and, I suppose, the same problems of dust in internal lenses, as the zoom mechanism is the same.
