AF28-70mm f/2.8 AF-S IF-ED Zoom-Nikkor
Strength:
1. Well balanced with the F5;
Weakness:
1. Heavy and bulky; With the exception at f/2.8 at longer focal lengths from macro to infinity, the lens is crisp, contrasty, quiet and fast. Mated to the F5 and SB-28, the assembly is heavy and bulky for travel. The serial number of this lens is 201117 and was purchased new at the end of March 1999 from Merkle Camera in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Customer Service Have not tried. Strength:
Fast focus, well built. Fit and finish first class.
Weakness:
Some complain about the size. On an F5 or F100 the size in not an issue. Note, I detected a little movement at the lens mount on the F100. You get what you pay for. In the case of the AF-S 28-70mm that means it is worth the money. Customer Service N/A Similar Products Used: None |

Weakness:
Bulk Excellent performing 28-70 lens, optically wonderful. Better than the Canon counterpart in certain focal lengths, mechanical wise, miles ahead. Feels more like a pro equipment than an expensive toy. A joy to use together with the F100. Similar Products Used: Canon 28-70 2.8L |

Strength:
MM range, fast, very sharp, manual focus in AF mode.
Weakness:
NO. If your needs are for this mm range, it's wide, fast and sharp enough to really please. If you are not sure you NEED this range, go to a store and try it out. Sold my NIKON 20-35 and replaced it with this lens for additional range on the top end. IF future needs require a wider range, will get a NIKON 20mm. Customer Service None Needed. None As an ex Contax owner, I'm used to using Carl Zeiss prime lenses, but recently changed to Nikon. This lens shows there is life after Carl Zeiss - pin sharp, well built. My favourite lens. Customer Service Not tried. Similar Products Used: Sigma 28-70 f2.8 |

Strength:
Perfect walk-around lens for range, speed and auto=focus. The AFS focus is quite an advantage over the non AFS screw drive. Sharp throughout the range.
Weakness:
A little on the heavy side. While quite expensive, the feel of this lens is much like the manual Nikkors--no plastic feel. Optics are excellent. Similar Products Used: None |

Strength:
Cool, professional look with tank built body. Razor sharpness and true color are impressive. Fast and accurate focus is excellent. Won't have the feeling of toy.
Weakness:
Nil. You get everything you want. It's not cheap but it's the best. I'll eventually get also the AFS 17-35 and 80-200mm. In the world of 35mm autofocus SLR, F5 plus AFS lens plus SB-28 is the best combo in this planet. Similar Products Used: AF Nikkor 24-50mm, 80-200mm (non-D) |

Strength:
Excellent Focusing on F-100
Weakness:
Like all AF-S lenses it's relatively heavy and Expensive. Great lens. It is a little heavy to hand-hold in some situations (more so than the 17-35) but all in all the optics on this baby are superb. Slightly better output at some focal lengths than the 17-35, but slight is the operative word here. These are very similar lenses optically speaking. If I had to choose only one lens to use for the rest of my career (as the options stand now), I'd choose this one. Customer Service Not needed for this lens but Nikon Support has been good to me in the past. Similar Products Used: 17-35 AF-S |

None WOW! I tried to not buy this lens. I bought the Tokina, I bought the Sigma I bought the older Nikon all 2.8. I have varying problems with all of them. Either they were to limited with older technology (nikon 35-70) or pcitures seemed to warm (Tokina) or the build quality left me wanting (Sigma). So I finally spent the money for this beauty. WOW! If you shoot in this range it is worth every nickel you spend on it. I also shoot the 17-35 AFS and the 80-200 AFS. This is smoother IMO and quieter than the 80-200. A really great lens that will encourage you to take pictures. Balances great on a F5. I did not have any of the problems with the lens hood that I had read about. It goes on only one way and snap into position with a positive click. A GREAT lens which I recommend without reservation. Forget about the price issues. If this focal range is important to you this is the Nikon to own. Customer Service Have not needed Similar Products Used: Tokina 28-80 ATX Pro II |
