Strength:
Very crisp images--Try to keep your F stop above f8 for best results or use a Tripod if you need to achieve that in low light conditions. Well constructed lens.
Weakness:
The lens has a hard time locking with the auto focuss even with the K-7. No Weather Proofing or SDM focuss like my crown jewel Pentax 16-50 DA* lens. When you just pick the lens up and feel the weight of the lens and it's quality feel you know that this lens is worth the MSRP of $900. It produces awesome, undistorted landscape pictures. I used it on my K-10D for many years but know use it on my K-7. I think that I use this lens for about 80% of what I shoot because of it's extended 20 degrees of view that it has over my 16-50mm DA* which I which they made a 12-24mm DA* for this lens. Strength:
Incredible sharpness, resolution and distortion control at all apertures. Light-weight, yet feels fairly solid.
Weakness:
Slight corner softness at 12mm setting, which gets well under control by f8 and is not present at any aperture in 14-24mm range.
This lens is the sharpest and most distortion-free of all 35mm format wide-angle lenses I've ever used. Its resolution is simply awesome and light distribution is very even across the frame plane - no darkened corners and no need for ND center-point correction filters. It leaves Tamron SP 17mm far behind and in 16-24mm range it outperforms the Pentax DA 16-45mm by a huge margin. Flare is truly well controlled and if you think that DA 16-45mm has flare under control, try this one! Well worth every penny I paid for it! Customer Service None needed so far. Strength:
Low distortion, low CA, very sharp for a zoom.
Weakness:
Lens hood is HUGE, but I suppose there's no avoiding that with a super-wide. This lens is amazingly sharp, especially for a zoom. Distortion is so well controlled that correction in Photoshop is really not necessary, pretty amazing for a super-wide zoom.
