Strength:

Built quality, good flare control and color rendition, due to the SMC coating.

Weakness:

None, except the definition problem i described above.

Although I am a big fan of SMC Pentax-A lenses, I was disappointed by this lens. I bought it considering the recommandations of a friend that owns one, too and intended to associate it to the SMC Pentax-A 70-210mm f 4, as a very convenient pair of lenses for hiking trips. Using several pentax lenses I expected similar optical quality but the results were very soft at f 5,6 and soft at f8. I put the camera on a stable tripod and at f 11 at f 16, the images were sharp in the center and soft on the edges. I couldn t sell these images. I was a little confused because many photographers used it with professional results. I recommend to test this lens before buying it ( maybe mine had problems ). I sold it to an amateur friend photographer who was pleased using it for small prints.

Strength:

Compact Design
SMC Coating
Optical Quality

Weakness:

Sometimes must use hand as lens hood to block sun due to wide angles achieved

I have this optic in the A series.
The F series is identical.
It has been helpful in architecturalcompositions,
and useful in nature compositions with dominate foregrounds.
It is reasonably sharp, and a color wonder.
Stopped down two stops is amazing.
