Strength:

Cheap. Lightweight Close focusing (1.1 meters) Sharp for a lens of this type Takes inexpensive 49mm filters

Weakness:

Slow

This is an often overlooked lens. VERY lightweight, surprisingly sharp for a consumer zoom. I have traveled often with this lens and have been very happy with it. Most other people will thumb their nose at you when you use this lens you'll be the photographer with good photos AND an lacking back strain.

Strength:

Light weight,solid,49mm filters,quite sharp.

Weakness:

Plastic feel.Slow at 200mm,forcing higher iso film speeds.

I think this is one of Pentax's best bang for the buck lenses. It was my first K mount zoom and has worked very well since buying it in 1997.I shoot a lot of equestrian events and this was my main lens,up until 2003 when i switched to AF.

Strength:

Sharp, compact, very good price for the quality, doesn''t get longer while changing its focal lenght, very quick focusing, the shortest minimum focusing distance in its class (1,1 m)

Weakness:

quite slow at the short end, like any lens of this class it has plastic feeling...

A very good telezoom lens for those, who have not enough money for a 80-200 f/2,8. The price I payed may seem to be high, but in fact it''s a very reasonable price for such a lens in Poland... I have the FA version, but it''s optically the same. It''s a nice portrait lens and works well with close-up lenses (with tripod I have no problem taking sharp close-up pics).

Strength:

This is a very sharp zoom lens, very light, the closest focusing of any 80-200 (1.1 M). 49mm filters.

Weakness:

Slow (4.7-5.6). Not the most attractive lens in the world.

Really a great lens. I use this for travel and usually bring a 1.4X TC along too. With 400 speed film and a monopod I've never been let down by this lens. When I travel this is generally one of 4 lenses I bring with me, so weight is a real issue. I also use this lens for backpacking too.

Light & small,
Decent optically

Weakness:

Slow (f5.6) at long end

Very small, lightweight, and affordable telephoto zoom capable of producing sharp images. Use a tripod for best results near 200mm.

Model Reviewed: SMCP-F 80mm-200mm f/4.7-5.6

Strength:

Lens is reasonably priced, light, compact and fairly sharp, especially for a zoom, that covers a nice range of focal lengths.

Weakness:

f4.7/5.6 is a bit slow but that’s the price one pays for small size and light weight.

Good lens for the money. I bought mine used and am happy with it (unlike another Pentax zoom – the FA 28-80, which I traded in because of its shoddy optical quality).

Customer Service

Haven’t needed it.

Strength:

Light-weight, low price (?), easy to use.

Weakness:

None so far.

It looks like a child's toy (I am old-fashioned canon-like lens lover!), but it is not. I have a small investment in Pentax ZX50 (two lens kit: $400) and I am happy about the resolution, color saturation, focusing speed and accuracy of the pentax lenses.

Strength:

This is for the Manual focus "A" version, Cheap, light, compact, takes 49mm filters and internal zoom keeps he same size while zooming is great, Very sharp lens

Weakness:

slow in the short end ( F4.7 at 80mm ) , too much wobble in the front element and sloppy focusing ring

cheap in price, but very sharp rather well made lens, This is one of the most convincing offers in the Pentax consumer line, and at such a low price to
