Sigma 28-135mm f/3.8-5.6 DL Aspherical IF Macro 35mm Zoom

Sigma 28-135mm f/3.8-5.6 DL Aspherical IF Macro 35mm Zoom

DESCRIPTION

Incorporating aspherical optics, plus a floating inner focusing system, this lens minimizes spherical aberration and stigmatism. This lens can focus from infinity to 19.7 inches at all of the focal lengths without close-up accessory, and as close as 9.4 inches (1:2 reproduction ratio) at the 135mm zoom position.

Strength:

Aesthetic, ergonomical and compact design. Good image quality

Buying the Sigma lens meant purchase of two-in- one lens: 1. "Prime" macro (1:2) 80 mm/5.6 lens since this lens in macro setting has focal length of 80 mm and maximum aperture of 5.6 and focu- ses from 24 cm to infinity. 2. All-purpose zoom 28-135mm/3.8-5.6 in normal setting. Thus it is ideal lens to photograph botanic gar- dens and flowers. I use this lens when set at macro to take close-up pictures of flowers and plants. At normal setting I use this lens to photograph general views of gardens (wide angle position) and details of landscape(tele posi- tion). Its pincusion distortion mentioned by Mark Ro- berts does not play any significant role in pic- tures in which rich plant life covers horizon line.

Strength:

Fast focus, very useful zoom range, good price, MACRO... 3 lenses in one...

Weakness:

The first lens I received had a spot on one of the inner optics. The shop replaced it without a problem and shipped me the new one free Fed-Ex 2-day

If you want a little more focal length, good quality photos for a good price, get this lens. Good optics, fast zoom and MACRO. Canon makes an IS version of the 28-135mm but it''s also $250.00 more. So, unless you''re in desperate need of IS, save your money and buy Sigma.

Strength:

Extremely versatile and sharp.

Weakness:

It is a little difficult to operate the aperture ring.

I was looking for a do it all lense for weddings and other people photography and bought this one for my Nikon 90s because of the reviews posted here. I just reviewed my first wedding images and I was very pleased with the overall quality. What a joy it is to use one lense for the entire wedding and get splendid resulsts, especially at this price! The "D" feature works very well for fill flash. I have standardized on Fuji NPZ 800 ASA Portrait fill (I shoot it at 400) which overcomes objections to this lens'' slow minimum aperture. This is exceptional film. You have to try it to believe it is this fast without noticeable grain.

None that I can see

Bought this lens with new Sigma SA7 and Sigma flash. Excellent results with all. I think it is the best value and zoom range for many photographers. I like this outfit so well, I think I''ll take it to bed with me.

Strength:

Great zoom range. Excellent Sharpness throughout the zoom range. good auto focus speed

Weakness:

Zoom ring a bit loose. Some flare. macro will works only at 135 mm.

I bought this lens to replace my AF 28-105 because it broke and cost to repair is about $200. so I decided to buy this after I''ve read reviews in magazines. This is all around lens due to its great zoom range and I take it everywhere with me. Color and sharpness is very good even in wide open. some flare but the lens hood(included) will help. best result when you stopped down to F8 but not much differences. Almost no vignetting Chromatic Abration could be seen around the edge if you inspect it closely by 10x loupe but not much, otherwise you wont notice it. I dont understand why some of the reviewer said it has a distorsion at 28MM it does not have!!. but it has some at around 80 -135. auto focus speed is quite fast. Overall. I''m very satisfy with this lens.

Strength:

Great all-in-one lens

Weakness:

A bit loose.

Although I''ve only used this lens for a few months, I''m pleased with the color reproduction and tones it gives. My only gripe with this lens so far is it''s construction. Pointed upward at a 60 degree angle (on a tripod), and set at 100mm or so, the lens tends to "deflate" back down to around 50mm. I suppose that warranty coverage would tighten some screws for me, but I haven''t tried yet.

Strength:

good built quality, but it''s a LENS, i want more then a good piece of plastic !

Weakness:

Decent sharpness only near f8-f11 DISTORSION !!!

I really don''t understand all these good reviews about this lens ! I''ve used it in several light situation, and NEVER it provide me good results. If you want a decent (nothing more)sharpness, you MUST stop-down at f8/f11 at any focal lenght, distortion it''s HORRIBLE at 28mm !! After 1 year of pain, i sold it, i really DON''T reccomend this lens for serious use.

Strength:

Built Solid, Macro capabilities. Quick focusing in AF. Good focal length.

Weakness:

A little soft at the corners wide open. Leaving Macro you have to set to infinity focusing which requires to turn two switches (camera & lens)

I purchased this lens to replace my Tamron 28-105 4.0-5.6, the Sigma 28-135 3.8-5.6 was diffently a step up. It has a smooth manual focus ring and it feels right on my Nikon F100. It is worth the price. It has since interested me in the Macro world with it 1:2 ratio at 135mm. I am satified. This is my all-around lens.

Strength:

sharpness and colours - incredible for this price

Weakness:

slow AF

I owned a Canon 28 - 80 lens and was never satisfied with my images, after reading a review in a german photo-magazin and the reviews in this forum I decided to buy this lense and it''s worth every cent. Good color saturation, sharp image quality and minimal distortion for a lens of this price. If you think of buying this lense, do so.

Strength:

Very sharp for a zoom.

Weakness:

none

I bought this zoom because of it''s good test results in the german magazines "Color Foto" and "FotoMagazin". After shooting about twenty rolls of film I''m very happy about my decision. From 28 to 70 mm focal distance the zoom gives me great results (with Fuji Superia 200). Even at 135 mm the results are good (better than with Canon 28-135 IS).
