Strength:

Sturdy
Very smooth
Moderate weight
VERY sharp pics...even to 300
Fast for a zoom
Will focus under less than ideal lighing conditions...even at high end.
Internal focus...a plus for cokin filters and polarizers.
Barrell lock.
Doesn't 'creep' if held down.
Twist zoom, not push-pull.
Metal mount.
Nice hood included.

Weakness:

The only thing I find lacking is the manual focus. I like the 'click stop' feel but I feel it should use a full turn...it's too fast, got to be carefull.

I have read the other reviews here and think I must have gotten a rare one. I absolutely love this lens. My pics are VERY sharp, no matter what the range. The lens will focus without effort in descent conditions and does a very good job under less than favorable. The camera and lens can't always do it all for you, somtimes you have to think about the shot and improvise or change the angle etc. I put 2x converter on the Sigma and it will auto focuss up to 150 or so. Put up against an expensive 300 fixed...not as fast, naturally, but the results at the photo lab will rival one...for 1/10 the cost. Give my overall another half star!

Strength:

Colossal focal range

Weakness:

Terribly heavy
Noisy and slow
Aperature mechanism unreliable
Useless on a newer EOS model

DO NOT purchase this lense if you are using a newer EOS model (like an Elan 7). You are paying for features that are counteracted by the lense! Alos, I would suggest a lense of more limited focal length. This is too heavy and sacrifices quality for an unecessary range. Dont take my opinion to heart though, I use an EOS camera. Canon EOS bodies have long had compatability problems with Sigma and Tokina lenses. However, dont get fooled by the large focal length. It might do you better to simply walk alittle closer to the subject and maybe pay alittle more. :-)

Strength:

-All in one lens
-good quality, cool-looking hood included
-fast focus
-fast lens (for a telephoto)

This lens takes unbelievably sharp pictures for a telephoto lens! It is compact as well! It is a smaller lens than my canon 28-80 lens was! Great deal!

Weakness:

None for the price I paid! There are things like the lack of a macro ability, but hey, I paid $275! What do you expect! Even still, it is a great quality lens, with sharp pictures. The lens does have a slightly noisy focus too, but I am comparing this to my canon autofocus.

Great lens.

Unbeatable deal.
