Strength:

Low price
Macro capability

Weakness:

Feels cheap & delicate
Focus ring feels loose

This was one of the lenses offered in a package with a Nikon N80. I took 5 rolls of prints and they looked OK, just OK. I didn't notice any terrible problems with the lens but the photos didn't knock me off my seat either. Sharpness was as expected. Not razor sharp but not fuzzy either. I didn't notice any image distortion on horizontal or vertical edges. I did not notice any of the 'major' problems mentioned elsewhere in this forum. For the $99 this is a good lens. I decided to return it and spend a few more dollars for the Tamron 28-200 Super II. I like having a zoom and as long as I can accept the compromises inherent to any zoom lens, I might as well have something that goes from wide to tele.
If you are looking for the sharpness and quality of a prime lens, by all means buy a prime lens. If you are willing to accept the compromises of a zoom, this one isn't too bad. I just wanted a little more 'reach' on the tele end.

Strength:

Inexpensive.
Good results especially for the price.

Weakness:

Looks like it could break easily but then for 99 dollars its not a heartbreaking experience.

Good value. Great if you need to take a disposable lens with you.

I purchased this lens together with my Nikon N80
about six months ago .In the beginning i was very satisfied with the lens by lack of comparison to other lenses. After I purchased the Nikon 70-300 lens I made some pictures to compare the lenses and was shocked by the difference in quality between the two. I am now looking to replace this lens with a similair range Nikon lens.
I guess for the price it is not a bad lens though.

Strength:

Light which fits perfectly for the Pentax MZ-7
Cheap
Quite good macro
Fast AF becaurse of of the short focus distance

Weakness:

Impossible to manual focus
Not the best build quality
Can give lens flares

This lense does its job fine. It give great sharp pictures in most conditions, noting breath taking but very good for the price. In certain light conditinons lens flares occurs, but not a big problem. I never focus manually with this lens, its not very accurate as the ring is a bit loose. But then again not a big problem, I just use my old lenses. Compared with the Voightländer lenses i have used, this Sigma wins big. But compared with my old Pentax and Exacta lenses the Sigma looses - not big though.

All in all a good product for the price.

Strength:

Decent Build
Macro Feature is VERY nice to have.

Weakness:

Sight vignetting when stacking filters

Nice, light lense to have...especially the Macro feature...haveing the Macro allows for extra creativity and closups as close 8 inches (roughly)..lots of fun...closeups of flowers turn out well on 4x6...It's inexpensive and puts out good pictures ...and if you happen to drop it and break it you won't be too upset scince it's inexpensive.

Strength:

Cheap, nice macro-feature, light.

Weakness:

Not many came up with, except that 5.6 at 80mm isn't that lightstrong.

It's a nice lense to start with (I got mine when I purchased my F50 with this and a 100-300:4,5-6,7 lense a couple of years ago). It's still, after I upgraded to an F80 and added a couple of lenses my almost most frequently used lense).
I'm looking for a more lightsharp lense in this range, maybe the Sigma 28-105:2.8-4 or so, or an 28-70:2.8 zoom.
But to be short, to start with a very nice lense.
