Strength:

Sharp and contrasty consumer tele-zoom. No distortions. Great focal range. Excellent MACRO ability -- Bravo Tamron! Lite, easy to handle and solid build.

Weakness:

At this price?! ...You must be kidding.

If you want a multi-thousand dollar lens, then buy one and save youself the trouble of posting a useless review on a consumer level product for the rest of us. For everyone else, please do not pay any attention to reviews that severely criticize a product with little to no detail even if they claim to come from "professionals". This lens is certainly not junk even if the price was three times higher than it is. I got the lens to use for travel and non-critical work but I was pleasantly surprised to find that its strengths are very understated considering its price. In my opinion, it is the best lens in the consumer tele-zoom category in terms of sharpness, contrast, ease of use and built quality. The MACRO ability of the lens is a bonus with excellent results! I recently shot a classic race-car renovation project, all in MACRO mode using this lens and 100ASA print film. The detail and sharpness in the pictures was nearly prime lens quality and the money I got from this one shoot alone paid for the lens twice over! Auto-focusing this lens on my EOS ELAN 7E is fast and reliable even with less than ideal light. I would highly recommend this lens to any photographer and even to professionals who may not regularly need to use this focal range but would like to have a low cost, good quality option in the bag just in case.

Customer Service

I never needed service on any of my Tamron lenses so I don't know. They are great with their rebate programs.

Weakness:

image quality, autofocus

This lens is practically worthless, but what should you expect for the price. Autofocus is terrible, especially at the tele end. Image quality is poor to say the least. Save your money and buy a prime lens.

Strength:

Light weight, colour reproduction, macro, good range, AF, sharpness, allows 3d matrix metering with my F80.

Weakness:

none yet.

Hi i am using this lens since last couple of months, and i am quite impresed with the results I got. Lens is very sharp at all the focal lenths. only at 300mm and f5.6, loses sharpness on edges of photos. colour reproduction is excellent, bit slow in AF in low light conditions but not failed yet. Macro mode is very effective. For me its very impresive lens also made few inlargements and it gives very good quality photos (seen upto 12x8).

This lens is fantastic, with an unbelievable range. incredibly tight optics, smooth slide, and a nice lens lock to prevent accidental slideout. Goes all the way from zoom to macro to wide angle. Awesome portrait lense. Can stand thirty feet away from subject and still get great intimate portraits. Highly recommend this lense if you are looking for a do it all lense.

A great lens for the price. I find it sharp and the contrast is right on. Compared this to a few others and this came out on top every time. I'm very happy with this lens.

Weakness:

Hey, it's a $150 lens? C'mon what can you expect? Soft at 300mm

Ok for a shoestring budget...which I was on immediately after I got my D30. Of the consumer grade lenses in this price range...this one is probably the best of the bunch. The Macro is really nice...I got some nice flower shots with this lens. If you're comparing this lens to high end glass...forget it. But for what you pay for it...it's a nice little lens.

Strength:

I love the quality of the photos, and I don't always have to use a tripod (given light levels).

Weakness:

A little slow in low-light and some action situations.

I really like this lens. I've used it to get close-ups of architectural details (from several feet below), to isolate my subject from a distance, to get some really neat portraits of my family. I love the versatility that it provides me. I use it with a Nikon N80 and since the camera is so light the lens does tend to weigh it down. It's a little slow to autofocus in low light settings, as previously stated. Also a little slow to capture action shots (my cats antics have turned out a little blurry), but overall very satisfactory. I bought this as a 2nd lens - my first is a Nikon 28-80 mm. I wanted to add a longer zoom and Nikon lenses were a little too rich for me. The lens hood, also as previously stated, is a little difficult to put on and it's not "broken in" with use. I don't always use a tripod when traveling, and I'm very satisfied with the result I've gotten while the camera's been hand-held.

Strength:

Ease of use Macro function Picture quality

Weakness:

Lens hood

I needed a moderate zoom to use with my Nikon cameras (N2000 (MF) and F801 (AF) so the lens had to be good for both. I considered the Nikon lens but could not justify the 50% higher price when in the store. After more than 5 months with this lens I am very pleased and as I gain experience with the lens, the picture quality continues to improve. Using a tripod whenever possible and keeping a close eye on the shutter speed really helps. If care is paid, then the pictures will be sharp,(with good colour - although this is just a product of the lens -not the technique). I find the lens is easy to use and the only concern I have is with the lens hood. It is quite stiff to put on and off. The focus on the F801 does hunt in low light or low contrast scenes but again if you know this you can compensate with manual assist and the focus indicators on the camera. I like the macro feature and because it works at 200 to 300 you get a convenient working sistance between the camera and the subject. This distance allows easy use of fill flash without overpowering the subject. I have used the unit on a 2x extender (Tamron) to shoot moon pictures and it works very well. Of course you must use a tripod on solid ground to do this type of shooting. In all for the price point, a very good lens value. This is the lens that stays on the camera all the time and I take at least 80% of my pictures with it.

Strength:

Compact and light, sharp image and good colors. Macro feature is nice to have. Great lens for the money.

Weakness:

Plastic so not as durable as metal but lighter. Autofocus is a little slow but manual focus is great. Macro/normal switch is a little sticky but OK - no worse than my Nikon 28-105.

This is a great lens for the money. I have recommended it others. I recently took some shots of robins at 300mm, hand-held, and they turned out great - very crisp and clear and the color was excellent. I like the light weight and compactness of this lens and the macro function works great. For the money I don''t see how you could do much better. I use it on a Nikon N65 so weight was an issue for me since the camera is so light. It feels fine on the camera.

Customer Service

Haven''t had to use it yet but it has a seven-year warranty.
