Strength:

* Solid construction, all metal
* High sharpness
* Low distorsion
* Non-rotating front lens element

Weakness:

* Aperture ring too small and too stiff (Pentax AF version)
* Quite heavy
* Autofocus slower than Pentax own lenses.

A good general performer with low distorsion and high sharpness. My most used standard zoom. I've taken many good shots with it. Great, if it just were a bit lighter...
Not an ideal travelling lens.

Strength:

Top notch build quality and optics. Using Fuji 400 now as a standard with all zooms, shots are all crisp and contrasty. I purchased this after I bought the Tokina 19-35 which is an amazing lens. Now I'm anxious to see the new Tokina 24-200.

Weakness:

A little heavy and loud, but not for the quality and price point.

I am very impressed with Tokina. Surprised that their lenses aren't more popular. Try that 19-35 mm !!

Customer Service

Strength:

Excellent optics
Weight and build
Price

Weakness:

Weight
Bayonet hood
Short travel for focus ring

Couldn't have asked for anything more from this lens. Tack sharp optics, great build, and very good AF. The Canon version proved too *cheap* in my hands and don't get me started on the flare(!). Besides, photozone's performance survey gave the nod to the Tokina. AF slower than ring USM lenses, but not by much.

IMO, I LIKE the weight. Carrying two F1's with loo..ong lenses in the Tetons is business as usual for me. The Tokina's weight is a pleasant surprise.

Just to clarify, I dislike all bayonet hoods, not just the Tokina's.
This is a discontinued model. Be sure this works on your EOS before you buy. Hoods are difficult to find.
