Strength:

The good news is this lens is sharper at 300mm than my copy of the DA ED 55-300mm (though I've ready samples vary as with any lens and I may just be in possession of a mediocre copy of the 55-300mm). Also if one doesn't have a lot of bucks to spend or is saving for something better/longer/more versatile, a copy of this lens can be had for less than $100. It has decent sharpness and contrast--for a cheapo first gen AF long zoom--and can kind of close focus within about 4-5 feet. Bad news is in some situations it hunts like Elmer Fudd; all over the place before it finally finds its target. No quick shift on this baby and the manual focus ring--which is really more part of the barrel--is barely as wide as the engagement ring I put on my beloved's finger. My copy of the Tokina AF 70-210 has the same issue: what focus ring? I'm not sure what these designers/engineers were thinking when they designed their first generation of auto focus lenses: "Hey, now that lenses have auto focus who needs a focus ring?" Big oops on that one. One more issue but not so much bad as just kind of weird: Even though it's an AF lens it's still push/pull zooming and the larger part of the lens extends and just looks kind of strange--and big. But if one has to have an auto focus zoom that goes to 300mm and isn't ridiculously soft at the long end like some other third party budget 300mm zooms I've read about and doesn't want to spend a lot of money and thinks they can deal with the trade offs of finicky AF and rinky dink manual focus ring, then this might be the lens for them. Strength:

price, range(75-300), size & weight

Weakness:

slow aperature (need a tripod or high speed film with low light)

I recommend this lens to anyone on a tight budget. I use it with a Nikon FE and have had very good results. Very easy to handle and nice large focus/zoom ring.

Strength:

Easy to focus-not heavy
for a long zoom lense.
Smooth zooming and focus
for quick pics.

Weakness:

Only that fstops are
4.5 at 75mm and 6.4 at
300mm.But normal for type lense.

Would recommend to buy for someone who wants a
long zoom lense without having to pay a arm and a leg for it.Also quality is very high.
