Hoya Polarizers Filters

Hoya Polarizers Filters

DESCRIPTION

They allow you to remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water, glass etc. They also enable colors to become more saturated and appear clearer, with better contrast. This effect is often used to increase the contrast and saturation in blue skies and white clouds.

Strength:

Inexpensive, relatively thin comparted to Tiffen.

Weakness:

Wish the knurl was on the stationary ring that screwed into the lens!?

I have heard and can now verify this is the best bang for your buck.

Strength:

Low price, high quality built and excellent for macro dental photo.

Weakness:

I'm a dentist. My work in photo is with a macro lens, ring flash and slide film. I love the Hoya PL circular filter because it allows to remove unwanted reflections of ring flash from teeth surfaces and mucosa covered by saliva. Very good built quality, without distortions or degradations of sharpness in the final image. It increases the image contrast and saturation of colors.

Strength:

It's inexpensive.

Weakness:

Poor durability.

Product was inexpensive and the quility reflected this. After less then 5 minutes of total usage time, the glass fell out and chipped from a very short height. Unable to reassemble.

Strength:

Just a beautiful filter all round really. I have one threaded onto my 50mm prime and another threaded on a 24mm wide. It never ceases to make me grin whenever I turn that wheel and everything saturates! Killer filter and both of mine live on the lens, they are simply indepsensable.

Weakness:

The tradesman not the tool.

I have used PL's for black and white film in lieu of a Red or Orange and have some beautiful results using TMAX 100 (All I ever use when shooting BW). This filter really comes into it's own during very bright contrasty conditions and acts in some ways similarly to an ND. If you have to decide between an ND and a PL right away grab the PL because it gives you a nice range of tricks for the one pony.
