Model Reviewed: Carl Zeiss T* Distagon 45mm f2.8 (645)

Strength:

-Solid construction
-Easy to focus with giant rubber focusing ring
-Equivalent to 28mm lens (in 35mm terms)
-Images are sharp all the way to the edges
-Minimal distortion
-Uses same 72mm filters as all Zeiss lenses except 35mm/f3.5
-Great lens for landscapes
-Focuses quickly manually or with AF
-Lens doesn't change length while focusing
-Not a single instance of flare

Weakness:

-I wish the lens was an inch or two shorter

This is a great landscape lens. As sharp as you'll ever need. I wish it was a short as the 80mm/f2, because it's pretty long for a wide angle lens. I'm extremely impressed with the results I've seen with this lens. I've used this lens for about 6 months now.

Strength:

Sharp, fast and accurate auto-focus. Low cost for a Zeiss lense with motors and electronics on board.

Weakness:

None

I love the lens, it is sharp, quick and the construction is a joy to behold. There is something about quality that is hard to explain. $2150 is a bargain considering all that is involved. The lens shade is a must, it goes on and off like a champ.

Strength:

Very, very crisp, bright and fast lens.
Perfect for landscapes.

Weakness:

Abit on the heavy side. Very pricy...but it's a Zeiss!

This lens is not for everyone, only for those who value quality and precision. I've tried Mamiya's Pentax's Bronica's and even Blad's lenses and IMHO, it doesn't hold a candle to this Zeiss T* lens. An absolutely must have lens for your Contax! I would urge anyone who owns a Contax to purchase on for themselves...you won't regrete it.

Strength:

*Extremely Sharp!
*Ultra saturated colors
*Very smooth focusing
*well built

Weakness:

*Too heavy
*too long for a wide-angle

Three things struck me about this lens: the sharpness, the brilliance and the extreme saturated colors of the chromes taken with this lens. This is one of the sharpest MF wide-angle lens I ever used. However, I'm a people photographer, I just think that this lens is not well corrected enough for shooting people(by that I mean full lengh shots from about 8-10 feet ), but it is THE lens for landscape, architectual and fine arts photography. This lens is great!!
