The classical portrait lens which provides the ideal perspective for head and shoulder portraits. The 150 mm focal length offers a moderate, but clearly visible, telephoto effect and the shallow depth-of-field can be used to set distracting backgrounds off-focus. Can also be used favorably in other areas such as fashion and landscape photography. The Hasselblad CFi/CFE lens line represents the latest generation of superior-quality lenses from Carl Zeiss. The CFi designation stands for "CF version improved" indicating that these lenses optically originate from the CF lens program, but have been further refined and improved to provide even higher image-quality, long-lasting reliability, and ease of use. Improvements include: · New internal design and new anti-reflection materials reducing stray-light to a minimum, thus enhancing the image contrast even more. · Improved design and a new main spring made of the specially durable material NIVAROX, which prolongs the life and increases the lasting precision of the leaf shutter. · A new PC-socket with a positive lock, which secures the flash contact even better. · A redesigned focusing mechanism, which runs even smoother. · A new reinforced and integrated rear bayonet plate providing more rigidity. · A new front bayonet in a durable non-metallic material, which withstands wear substantially better than previous designs. · A new external design providing increased handling comfort and is styled to fit the Hasselblad cameras more pleasingly. I am more than happy for the buyer to collect (west London) if they would prefer due to the expense of this item. m. 07779 250 748 h. 020 8948 7739 laurence1@dsl.pipex.com Laurence

Strength:

Great portrait lens. works great with Softars

Weakness:

well, I only use it for portrait

Personally, I love this lens. I am supprised this lens got such low mark. I had read alot of good things about 180 CFi, and return a 180 CFi for 150 CFi, or trade in a 150 for a 180. The images come out of this lens is great, and that is my main concern. I use it with a softar I or II most of time.

Model Reviewed: CFI f/4 150mm

Strength:

Good optics, part of the entire system taking same filter sizes

Weakness:

Not as sharp as CF100 or CF250 Super Achromat

A good lens in a nice focal length for portrait and landscape needing a medium telephoto.

However, if you are considering this lens for portrait sometimes it may be a bit long, depends on your style. If you like a little less distance for portrait then 120 macro is probably better, as there is no doubt that at portrait distances the 120 has better sharpness and superior background blur at large apertures. The 120 being optimized for 1/5 scale might lead you to believe that it will be softer at 10 feet, or 20 feet, but my experience is that even at 20 feet it's a better lens than the 150, which is a good, but not great one.

On the slightly longer length, if you think you might like a little longer, check out the newer 180 as this is a better lens, optically, than the 150. If I had to do it over again I would use the 120 and 180 instead of the 150. If I did not have the 250SA I would sell my 150 to get a 180. But 180 is so close to 250..........

Strength:

Good focal length for small indoor studio and framing of Head & shoulder shots, easy to handle in terms of balance and C of G compatible filter size to 80 100 120 and 250

Weakness:

sharpest is not on par when compared to 120 MP 180 especially and 100 for portraiture work which this lens is meant for. I sold it and got the 120 and 180 instead with all 4 extension tubes. Never looked back. Think before you buy this lens

Best system in the world and I have been shooting it since I was 16 when given a 500c/m as a present. I recently got a Mamiya 7II with 65 mm for candid travel and street shots and find this suffice my need for carrying my Hassy system around the world. Will be buying a Digital SLR soon for all my snappy need. After 30 years in phtotgraphy I need another room to store my negs and print. My wife has been most accomadatiing. I nover blow up beyond 8 x 12 in 35mm hence I think digital will satisfy my needs. My 6 x 6 and 6 x 7 shots are all prints to 8 x 8 initially and finally the selected ones to 20 x 20. Thanks all other members for their contribution and ideas I find them most helpful and informative. London UK
