Model Reviewed: FE f/2.8 150mm

Strength:

Lightweight. Compact for a lens of this sort. Nice bright viewfinder image makes it easy to focus in dim light. Overall very good to excellent performance. Wide open the corners are a bit soft, contrast is fair. Performance improves quite a bit stopped down. Sharpness and contrast performance is excellent stopped down. Goes a bit soft again stopped down all the way due to diffraction. Very little vignetting or distortion. Excellent fit and finish. Focus is smooth and well dampened like other FE lenses without being too tight.

Weakness:

None

A workhorse type lens. Sharp and lightweight. Great if you don't need a leaf shutter. Wide aperture gives nice background blur and isolates subject. Also good for times when you need a faster shutter speed.

Strength:

In addition to everything nice that can be said about all Hasselblad lenses, it has this nice feature of the same sharpness regardless of f/stop. Shutterless design enables for a one stop wider maximum aperture, which I find invaluable for studio portrature at wide apertures where critical focusing is necessary. Costs five hundred bucks less than a CF 4/150 on used market.

Weakness:

A front element is almost outside of the barrel, which makes use of the lense almost impossible without a hood and makes me very nervous about touching it or something. On the other hand, who shoots without a hood?

If you have a focal plane Hasselblad, buy it. It is light and compact compared to my Schneider Variogon and sports unbeatable optical performance. I use it more often than a normal 2.880 Planar.
