One of the strenghts of a rangefinder is the wide angle lenses. Because there is no mirror or other internal optical metering paths the lens designer can bring the lens deep into the body of the camera. And in the case of the 43mm lens by Mamiya only millimeters away from the surface of the film itself.

This allows for the best optical design with the least number of trade offs, the result is fantastic photographs that are sharp and have contrast beyond the nearest competitor. I have used this lens for a couple of years now and have taken countless number of shots with it and it has never let me down and it has never said "no" when it comes to composition or depth of field control. The results are without question the best one can hope for in a medium format wide angle lens.

The only draw back is not the lens but the optical viewfinder that is used to frame the image and is mounted on the hot shoe of the M7 body. I only wish the exposure information were displayed in the add-on viewfinder in the form of two LEDs. Otherwise the lens and body (with the quiet shutter) combination is a perfect match up.

Highly recommended for professional use such as weddings and candids as well as landscapes and fine fine applications.
