    Strength:

Easy to set up. Had it completely set up and printing from my Apple G4 within 15 minutes.

    Weakness:

Narrow color gamut - I shoot quite a bit of super saturated chrome such as Velvia and E100VS. This printer is not capable of producing brilliant reds, oranges and deep to medium cobalt blues. The color in out-of-gamut areas are flat and void of fine detail. Completely ruins the print.

Metamerism - The prints from the 2000p will shift dramatically in color when viewed under different light sources. When outputting, one must output for the light source the print will be displayed in. While this is true for all types of mechanically printed matter using real pigment in the ink, it is quite bad with the 2000p. Tertiary blues will turn green before your very eyes.

Slow - at the finest settings possible this printer is incredibly slow yet fails to produce a photo quality print. I have tried to print several different images that were scanned on professional drum scanners by professional service agency's. Even so the shadows block up very quickly and the highlights look choppy.

    Expensive ink cartridges.

Not sure who Epson intended this printer to work for. It has in my opinion to many serious faults to be an asset to any photographer serious about presenting their work properly.

It's all show and no go with this Epson product.
    Please avoid it.

    Customer Service

Not very helpful. They sent samples and guidelines for producing the best print possible and their samples had the same highlight/ shadow problems that my own prints displayed.

    Strength:

    Print longevity

    Weakness:

    some metamerism

The previous reviwer was a little harsh. This printer is capable of very good results on the right media - and with the rigtht color setup for the intended viewing conditions. This means using a daylight profile for daylight viewing.

With an appropriate profile, colors are nearly as saturated on glossy media as the 1270. Metamerism can be minimised.

The printer requires a bit more care than normal, but repays this, in my view, with good results. I use mine a lot, with the profile we have built for daylight use.

    Strength:

Good quality prints for the money.

Long lasting prints. Good for photo albums and family archives.

    Accepts roll papers.

Wide format. This is the best quality print and size for under $1000 that I could find.

    Easy setup and printing.

    Weakness:

Sometimes crashes Photoshop. I don't know if it's the printer or Photoshop or something else getting in the way.

The color balance changes when cartridges changed. Printing the same print on the same type paper, the color was very different. This is adjustable, but I don't want to have to spend the time re-calibrating every time.

This is not a professional unit. I would not try to display fine art prints from this printer. It is a very good printer for someone wanting to print pictures of the family or basic wall portraits etc. The price performance ratio is excellent, as long as you understand what this printer will NOT do. I used to be a professional wedding and portrait photographer, and I would not try to sell the prints because of low quality and it is way too slow for any sort of mass production.

I do use it for printing copies of old family photos (mine and other people's) because the originals are so poor the printer can always do better. I also use it for printing pics from my digital camera.

In summary, it's great for home use, but don't buy it if you really want to impress sophisticated viewers.

    Strength:

Brilliant, consistent colors from cartridge to cartridge, razor sharp results, fully professional in every way for archival prints

    Weakness:

Materials are expensive, printer is slow, but what do you expect for prints of this quality

Obviously my opinion is radically different from other reviewers. I don't know what their problems are. I made sure I used professional calibration software to get my monitor and this printer as close as possible. Maybe that's the difference. My results are stunning, and I've shown it to highly critical viewers and everyone agrees. I've made hundreds of prints, but you've got to get it calibrated. I have never noticed a lack of red color saturation. My reds are dazzling. Disappointing results others have experienced must be from poor calibration. Objections I've heard about th1 1270 colors are they are unrealistric. Use this printer if you want colors to portray what's really on the film, which is what professionals want, not exaggerated colors, which is what uncritical viewers want.

    Strength:

    *Archival Prints
    *Excellent Detail
    *Variety of paper choice

    Weakness:

    *Cost of consumables

I have a 1270 but was concerned with longevity of prints( especially if sold). The 2000p does an excellent job. The colors are a little more realistic and less velvia like compared to the epson 1270. I have had prints made in a lab with the fuji frontier. Many of the prints made with the 2000p seem to have better color saturation.

    Strength:

Very easy to set up, and no compatability issues with my G4, Superb print quality for the money.

    Weakness:

Need to really pay attention to color and lighting before making final print, but you should anyway.

I would recommend this product to anyone

    Strength:

With archival matte you can produce results arguably better than lab photos but only if not viewed in daylight.

    Weakness:

Metamerism! When people see the green thay want their money back if you sell your art! It's the printer from hell!

The printer sucks, I think it's evil; you get seduced by the samples you see in the stores, then your printer finaly arrives and you plug it in and go to work and your prints are amazing, you go to bed thinking about it all night, you can't wait until morning to see them again and start showing them to clients; morning comes and every things GREEN and nobody wants to buy from me! It turns out Epson new about this problem all along but after speeking to Two different Epson reps at two different Comp USA's and a sales person at Western Photo and of course the sales person at Page Computers who I purchased it from, no mention of this metamerism problem was ever made but infact after telling them how I planned on using it thay all recomended this printer to me. If you want to be truly dissapointed, this is the perfect printer for you.
