Strength:

amazing ease of use. I left some packing foam in the mechanism when I first tried it, and it told me exactly where the jam was and how to clear it. Very well thought out product from beginning to end. Easy to use.

Weakness:

I don't have any solid info on the longevity of the images compared to conventionally processed images. I do know that it is supposed to last a way way, way longer than dye-sub.

The day I got this printer hooked up, I printed stunning black and white images (which is my focus) and some fantastic color images from high res film scans that precisely matched the black and white images that I had printed in my darkroom. All without any adjustment by me. Sometimes, with b&w, I do have to tweak the contrast and other adjustments in Photoshop to achieve real B&W with no color overtones in the print. This is an amazing piece of equipment that has printed images that are indistinguishable from images I printed in my darkroom. And the only thing I have to do is replace the water when it tells me to.

Strength:

Outstanding print quality! Easy to use. Photoshop plug-in. Fairly fast print time.

Weakness:

Parts are a bit pricey as are supplies (paper & donor).

I absolutely love this printer! There is nothing, and I mean nothing under $10,000 to touch it. Image quality is incredible! That said, when I decided to go the money, I called Fuji USA with a few questions before spending my hard earned cash. To say the sales department SUCKS is a gross understatement. I went through endless telephone routings to get the answering machine of someone who could have cared less. After five weeks of trying (begging for a return call), I finally left a message saying I understood they were busy, but I couldn't spend the money if they couldn't help me. I also mentioned that I could possibly get a Japanese friend to call Fuji Japan to get the info needed, no hard feelings. I then received a terse message from an arrogant salesman saying "he didn't handle my class of trade". Strangely my $10,000 spends the same way as anyone else's, as I'm sure yours does too. And I was routed to this individual every time by Fuji's switchboard, so it wasn't like I was calling the wrong guy. If you can't get your questioned answered by a dealer, do yourself a favor and call Fuji Japan directly. All of my messages were polite, concise and friendly, which really makes me angry now! Maybe if I'd been a jerk I would have gotten an immediate response! Pitiful & Lame are not strong enough words to describe Fuji Sales USA (Pictrography). After considering all of this, I opted to buy a used machine in case it wasn't all it was supposed to be. Thankfully, it is and my hat's off to Fuji Japan. If you need to print digital images, this is the machine. The prints will not color shift under different light sources such as Epson 1270's or 2000's do. You will be proud to give your client the results!

Strength:

Looks like it might work.

Weakness:

Tech support is worthless. It has been 2 weeks and still not working. Had to hire 2 independent techs to figure out the bundled software was corrupt. No help from Fuji! They knew nothing about the software they shipped with the printer (Raster Plus). Now images are not consistant, even when the same images are printed within only a few minutes of each other. All indications seem to point at printer problems and Fuji is giving us the run around. I am told that machine just could not be at fault and that before they would send a technician to physicaly check it out, I would have to buy additional software to insure consistant printing. I was given an web site to look at the new software (the only color management software they support) and the web site was no longer active. My own tech support guys tell me I don't need anymore software and most operation are doing exactly what we tried. Now I am waiting to hear back from Fuji tech support again, that takes 2 to 4 hours or perhaps not at all.

The reviews say it is a great machine. God help you if there is a problem. Even if it can perform as advertised, I would not advise any company or photographer that needs to meet deadlines, keep production up and expects timley equipment repairs to avoid this product for now.

Customer Service

I did not purchase the $1200 support plan. The printer comes with 90 days of tech support. I am not getting any helpful info from these people. I have done all the tests they have asked for (about as lame as "check to see machine is plugged in") and still no ideas. When asked point blank "what do I do now, it is still not working?" the standard reply has been "we will call you back".

Strength:

Image quality is superb! Fast printing. Very sharp, tack sharp in fact!

Weakness:

Big, bulky and HEAVY! Wish it connected to a Firewire. But SCSI works fine.

Awesome printer. I only hope the prints will last a long time so my customers won't end up calling me in a few years to complain of fading or color shifts. Hannagraphics in Houston, Tx., did a fine job in selling the product to me. Great people! Get Packagizer (expensive) program to go with the printer. It works great and is really cool!

Customer Service

Sales team just plain sucks. Had no obvious training in selling the item. I had to get my information from other photographers. Guess the product just sells itself. Asked for samples from Fuji, but they only sent me a brochure.
