Strength:

Independent control of friction and lock function. Decent sized controls.

Weakness:

The connection between tripod platform (Gitzo 1228) and the ball head can get lose on occasions.

A mid-size ball head with independent friction and lock function. Supports well even heavy SLR with marco package (Contax RTS III, extension rings, macrofocussing platform) with no problems.

Customer Service

No need, built for life.

Looked at an Arca B1 recently in the shop. Noted the much smaller friction control, and that the tilt break does not do too much. No need to change; the Linhof is a great tool.

Strength:

Small, light, perfect balance for Gitzo 1227
Locks down nicely, wont move.
Smooth ball action
Tension control
Panning control
Really nice when mated to a RRS quick release clamp.

Weakness:

Tension contol can be tough to adjust.
Panning lock knob difficult to lock down, (never feels tight to me). Some grease (lubricant?) on my ball feels stick and may attract dust over time.

Much smoother and better build quality than the Giotto MH-1000 that it replaced. The Linhof and Giotto are identical, (Giotto copied the Linhof I assume). Very light and mates up to the Gitzo 1227 very nicely. Total weight of pod and head 5 lbs. Very good lock down with EOS 3/300/4IS. Not tested with 300/2.8. I'm not worried about slippage.
