Strength:

Solid feel and operation. Indispensible for nature, landscape photography. Even for portrait/glamour shots in my studio, I often use it, either on my Canon A2 or Mamyia 645, or RB67. It works well with all of them.

Weakness:

A minor bother when tilting the camera for a vertical shot. I'll take that bother over the inaccuracy of a ball head any day.

I wouldn't work without this head. I don't have to guess where level is, and I have no fear for my camera mounted on top of it. The fluid motion of this head makes minor or major adjustments easy. To me, it's worth the price and the weight. This head delivers!
Anyone doing nature/landscape photography needs one.

Strength:

- Solid
- High load capacity (no problem with my EOS3+PB-E2, macro slide, 100mm macro, and flash)
- Smooth operation.
- Bubble levels makes leveling easier.

Weakness:

- a bit heavy
- A bit too high for getting low on the ground.

This is a very solid performer with a very reasonable price tag. It works very well with macro, when you need precise framing. My only complaint is that it's quite heavy with my Bogen 3021. Otherwise, I like it a lot.

Strength:

cheap sturdy well built and high load capacity.

Weakness:

HArd to make very small adjustments, when the pan is loosen the camera position changes, knob to bulky.

When photographing buildings its important that camera be absolutley level trying to make very small adjustments with this head is a pain in the butt. also when the pan is loosened there is a slight creep in the horizontal tilt. the camera will return to the original position after the pan is tightened but it still makes it that much harder to be precise. For critical work i would give it a 2.5 for genreal photography a 4 because it is cheap and sturdy.-J

Strength:

This is an extremely well made head. Sturdy, adjustable, and smooth. The quick release is precise and secure.

Weakness:

A bit tall and heavy, but worth it.

This is a great head. I have it paired with 3001 tripod and use it with 35mm Canon and with a Olympus C3030. In fact the weight is an advantage when shooting with a light digicam - it adds stability.

Strength:

Sturdy, 3-way head that locks tight and holds the camera still, even with longer lense. Large quick release (with lock) to match 3055 ball.

Weakness:

None

Excellent choice for any photographer who is looking for an excellent product that also comes with an affordable price. I use mine on a Bogen 3001 and 3021 tripod and then use the 3055 ball mounted with a Bogen super clamp on one of the legs for near ground-level work. The quick release plates are interchangeable.

Strength:

This thing is solid. It works very well with the Manfrotto 3021 legset. Everything locks down tight and will not budge.

Weakness:

It is a bit tall. Its high profile makes a bit of a beast to use with a 4x5 monorail. Perch a 10 lb Linhof on this head and you've got a combination with its center of gravity about a foot above the pivots. As long as the camera is pointed more or less horizontally, it is OK. However, I need to counterweight it with my f/64 bag if I'm shooting something on the ground and have to point the camera straight down.

Great head for 35mm and probably most medium format gear, but opt for something a little lower profile if you shoot stuff on the ground very often. You'll thank yourself when your precious camera isn't taking a nose dive into your subject.

Strength:

Very solid. Built-in levels. Good controls.

Weakness:

None.

Heavy weight is this thing's worst attribute. I do not believe the weight is only 3.75 lbs, as stated in the description above.

However, I have used it to support a borrowed 4x5 camera, which it did without any sagging or movement. VERY solid! For heavier equipment than a 35mm body and moderate-length lenses, the weight of this head will not seem excessive given its solid support.

It is also reasonably priced.

Strength:

Very sturdy.

Weakness:

No

Very sturdy tripod head. I have it connected to a set of 3221 legs and mount an F5 with the 80-200 F2.8 Nikon lens to it with confidence that it will hold the weight. Difficult at first to use the three different controls to adjust. However, after you use it a while, you get used to it. Quick release is easy to use, and comes in very handy.
Ball heads are easier to use; however, I have never felt confident with one.
I'll agree with the previous review, it does seem heavier than they say, especially after walking a few miles with it and the 3221 legs strapped to your back.
