I needed a sturdy yet reasonably light tripod to support a Sinar F2 or a Hasselblad outfit in the field. Bought this wooden single leg extension tripod direct from Berlebach in Mulda, Germany.

On opening the box I was amazed by the beautiful dark brown nutwood colour of this beautiful ash wood tripod. It is gorgeous and is admired by everyone who sees it.

In use:
Steady as a rock and can carry loads of up to 12kg with no problems whatsoever. For such a strong tripod it only weighs about 3kg and because it is single leg extension it dampens vibrations very effectively. The semi-sphere ball levellng device is really great to use for a large format camera or medium format square camera as horizons can be levelled quickly and easily using the built in bubble level and a turn of a screw with a black handle. The feet are retractable spikes/feet.

Leg spread is controlled on each leg by a knurled ring which can lock spread at 20 degs or 45 degs or, if you turn to a third unmarked position the legs can be splayed out to any angle. Brilliant!

Transport: OK, some people might be put off by the single leg extension design which means that its min length is about 90cm folded, but I use an Optech strap which velcro closes around the ball leveller at one end and the three feet at the other and I sling it over my shoulder 'rifle' style. Easy to carry that way.

All in all a great tripod for the price and for anyone interested in LF or MF.
