not stable enough above 100 or 200 mm

This is a very good and lightweight hiking tripod for outdoor and landsape photography. I use it together with a German FLM/Statec Centerball CB38T ballhead. The build quality is superb and the leg locks are very good. Just turn 'em gently and don't apply any force. Very precise ! Although this combo carries a total load of 4 kg, I don't use it above 100 or 200 mm. It is perfect for my Leica M6 + lenses or my R-System up to the 2.8/100. For heavier loads, e.g. R7/R8+Motor Drive+2,8/70-180 or 2,8/280 I use the Gitzo CF 1325 + Burzynski Ballhead (http://www.naturfotograf.com/burzynski.html). A perfect and lightweight hiking/travelling tripod. But if you can afford just one tripod, go for the 1325 and use 2 ballheads. A heavier/sturdier one like the Burzynski or the Arca Swiss B1 (1 kg) and a lighter one (400gms) for hiking. Or if that's too expensive, try the 1227. The 1127 is definately better and more stable than the 1128 with 4 sections.
