Strength:
Watertight, ergonomic, Austrian engineering
Weakness:
corrosion at synch cord connectors, cost. I have been using the SeaCam F-100 housing for four years. It is well designed, absolutely waterproof, and easy to use. It is a little labor intensive to align all of the knobs and switches to get them all to work at the same time, but I am sure the more complex the housing, the greater the problem. The case is very ergonomic, and you can operate the command and sub-command dial for adjusting shutter speed and aperture without having to move your right hand from the handle. I only have two complaints if you want to call it that. One problem I have found is that my synch cords have a stainless steel fitting and nut, but the housing is aluminum, which includes the synch cord ports. If you join two dissimilar metals (aluminum and stainless steel), add a really good conductant like sea water, and add electricity (using the flash), you get a great recipe for corrosion. You need to take all the connectors apart after every dive day; then clean, dry, and lubricate the threads with silicone grease. The second complaint is the cost. Not just for the housing, but for everything that you also need with the housing to take pictures. Then to make matters worse, it is obsolete in 3 to 4 years, and you have to start all over. That is a real problem for those of us who were not part of the "lucky sperm club" (born into money). I have been very happy with my SeaCam housing, and have some great shots with the aid of the camera and housing in spite of my photographic shortcomings. I would buy their products again. Mike Glenn Customer Service I did send my housing in for service once, but they were honest enough to tell me that nothing needed to be done and sent it back. That kind of honesty is rare in this day and time. Similar Products Used: The only other UW cameras that I have owned and used are Nikonos IV, and Nikonos V. |
