Strength:
Bokeh at 2.8-3.5mm, sharp, great colours, very useable focal length. Versatile.
Weakness:
A tad pricey, secondhand BUT...value = what it's worth. To me, it's worth it and then some. Every bag should have one of these lenses, A little pricey considering it's second hand status but since owned, never off my camera, which surprised me. Very useful lens distance, sharp, great colour rendition and bokeh at larger apertures and, though heavy, I absolutely do not regret purchasing. Superb lens. Strength:
Light weight. No flare so far with the aux lens shade in place.Very close focus for head shots and body parts and bridal dress details.
Weakness:
You don't want to shoot this at F2.8 unless there is no other way. Very hand holdable and usable focal length for people. I chase my family around the house with this on my D70. Works well on film cameras too.F2.8 is great and keeps the barrel circumference down which I like.Macros are no problem at all. Customer Service None needed. Similar Products Used: I have the non auto focus version of this lens which seems slightly sharper than this one. |

Strength:
105mm! Multi-purpose Good quality
Weakness:
Weaker AF at close distance in low light Milky effect through eye piece when photographing agains bright sky. Plastic body I have only had this lens for a little while, but I am quite satisfied thus far. It is a very nice lens, good quality, but not the best as far as I see. It really is a mult-purpose lens, in that it can be used for macro, portrait and landscape, though it is best for macro. The 1:1 ratio is very nice and I like the ablitily to be farther away than when using a lens of a smaller focal length. One thing that I confirmed that I read in another review is a hazey/milky affect when photographing against a bright sky with my F100. Not sure why this is, but it doesn't show on the images. Another problem is the lens has a hard time focusing in low light, more so with closer object than those that are further away. Go figure, you probably want to us Manual Focus when doing macro work anyway. I know that metal is not always better than plastic, but I sure do like the feel and am a bit disappointed, especially taking into account the expense of the lens. none The Nikkor 105 f/2.8 D micro is with out a doubt, the sharpest lense I have ever used. I have used it for macro, portraits, landscapes, and action. It has performed flawlessly in every area. Sharpness, quiet AF, build quality.
Weakness:
AF is not as quick as it could be. (but still not too bad) What can I say, there are no real downsides to this lens. It's very sharp, even wide open, its AF is fast enough for general purpose work, and its quiet too. AF, light weight, macro capability, super sharp at f4 and smaller.
Weakness:
Absolutely none, anyone who thinks it is too sharp should use a silk stocking when printing. May be the sharpest 35mm lens that I have ever owned, it is definitely a match for the 100mm f2.8 Vivitar I used back in the 70's with Panatomic-X at ei 16. Very sharp 16x20 enlargements and could probably go to 20 x 30. Similar Products Used: 100mm f2.8 Vivitar that resolved better that my professor's 105 f2.5 nikkor. |

Strength:
sharp, hand holdable macro for flash photography, really durable and ugly enough that no one wants to steal it.
Weakness:
None, other than it's filter size. To the previous reviewer, if it was any sharper people would complain and they do. They complain about wrinkles and blemishes in their portraits, so I use a softening filter for people. But I don't shoot people that frequently, if I did I would buy a Nikon 105 f/2 defocus lens. This lenses strong points are for macro. And macro it does very well. Generally shooting macro requires smaller aperatures and at smaller aperature it is very sharp. It is great for chasing bugs around in lower light with a flash. I prefer my Sigma 180 for insects, but my cameras max sync is 1/125 of a second. At this sync speed, the 105 is perfect for sharp pictures. It is also better than the other macros for flowers because the 180 tends to "flatten" them. The only way I will part wirth this lens is if a newer, sharper NIKON lens is released. It has proved to be VERY durable for the amount of times I have tripped giving chase with the cameraa up to my eye usually resulting in a face plant. On the downside, I would like it to have the same filter size as the 60mm and 200mm macros from Nikon. The only other "bad" thing is that Nikon makes so many good lenses that my bag is getting heavy. Not a true 2.8...when you focus at very short distances your fastest aperature can be 3.5 good lens that sees action often. Filters are cheap for this lens because 52mm. (When use with tripod) Very sharp, beautiful colors and contrast, very nice blur of back ground when defocus due to round diaphragm.
Weakness:

Good working distance because of 105mm focal length, standard filter size, focus limiter, goes to life-size sans attachments, has easy-to-use rings and controls, and IT IS SHARP.
Weakness:
