Hi, I'm Pam (aka pweb) and I help Larry (aka Old Timer) as co-moderator of the photo galleries. I've been part of PR's gallery community since 2004, sharing my photos and learning from fellow photographers.
Coming from an artistic and musical family, I was encouraged to try out any type of creative format that interested me, as long as we could afford it -- painting, drawing, arts & crafts, playing the flute, etc. When I was about 10 years old, my parents let me take an old camera on an outdoor education trip, and a photographer was born -- I wanted to capture everything around me. When I discovered digital photography several years ago, the choice was clear.
Learning the technique that allows me to end up with the picture that I see in my mind is an ongoing process, but learning is half the fun. When you have a "Eureka!" moment of seeing on the screen that special something that you saw when you clicked the shutter -- or maybe a step better, like finding a tiny bug on what you thought was 'just a beautiful flower macro' -- the hours spent studying aperture, shutter speed, light, composition, editing, etc., are all worthwhile.
Nature photography is my first love, but anything and anyone that attracts my eye is fair game. I've come to see life through a viewfinder. Photography gives us the ability to depict special or mundane life moments in all their glorious detail or abstraction -- if we want to take the challenge.
