The new flagship COOLPIX model offers the creative freedom of advanced, customizable shooting functions that will inspire photographers of all levels

Nikon Coolpix P6000 Digital CameraTOKYO – Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the new flagship model in the Nikon COOLPIX lineup. Practical new features inspired by Nikon digital SLR cameras place shooting control and optimized performance in the hands of photographers with operation that feels both comfortable and natural. Precision built to enable photo and camera enthusiasts of all levels of experience to enjoy real photography – the Nikon COOLPIX P6000.

Class-leading imaging ability is a feature trait of the COOLPIX P6000. A new 13.5 megapixel image sensor captures the finest details with sharp resolution. A 4x Zoom-NIKKOR lens with ED lens elements covers focal lengths from a wide 28mm (35mm format equivalent), delivering clarity and precision throughout its range. And an optimized processing system based on Nikon’s original EXPEED digital image-processing concept quickly delivers quality results with faithful color reproduction and subtle tones.

Customization features inspired by Nikon digital SLR cameras allow photographers to take control where desired. The Mode Dial provides quick access to advanced Programmed Auto [P], Shutter-priority Auto [S], Aperture-priority Auto [A], and Manual [M] exposure modes, the choice of two user-defined settings, (U1/U2), as well as automated scene modes that offer learning and advanced photographers expressive freedom combined with ultimate convenience. In addition, the P6000 features the Command dial and customizable Function button that allow quick switching of settings. There’s also a shooting menu for quick access to regularly used selections and an efficient new tabbed menu interface.

Additional shooting options engineered to maximize image quality and offer greater control over the final results include Nikon’s original COOLPIX Picture Control System and NRW* (RAW) support. The COOLPIX Picture Control System features intuitive operation that enable in-camera finishing and conversion to JPEG format, allowing photographers to adjust images to their liking. Further, images shot in NRW* (RAW) format can be opened and edited in ViewNX (Window version only) for increased flexibility.

As the flagship model of the Nikon COOLPIX lineup, the COOLPIX P6000 is designed to deliver innovative functions in addition to optimum image quality. Wired LAN support offers easy access to the Internet for automatic and secure online image storage using the Picture Bank service of my Picturetown, which also provides the ability to send images directly to a blog or other websites. And a new built-in GPS (Global Positioning System) unit can record the location of shots when taken and attach “geotags” with information about latitude and longitude to each image file. This adds the fun of being able to view the location on maps available in ViewNX or my Picturetown, or to edit or add geotag information.

The finely crafted body feels immediately familiar in the hand, demonstrating Nikon’s commitment to building the COOLPIX P6000 for true camera enthusiasts. It features a quality finish and a front panel made of solid magnesium alloy (Mg), a comfortable grip covered in grid-pattern rubber, and logically placed controls that simplify and streamline camera operation. There’s also an optical viewfinder that aids composition, particularly in brightly-lit conditions. Another major feature is system expandability, which supports the use of external flash and converter lens components, further expanding the photographic possibilities of the COOLPIX P6000.

*COOLPIX Picture Control NRW (RAW) files can only be processed in-camera. NRW (RAW) files are compatible for use in-camera, with ViewNX (Windows version only) or with WIC based applications. Capture NX, Capture NX2 and NEF files are not compatible with NRW (RAW) images.
