New Olympus Stylus 1050 SW – With Tap Control!

stylus1050sw_sm.jpgOlympus has announced a new addition to their waterproof and shockproof Stylus SW digital camera line. The 10.1-megapixel Olympus Stylus 1050 SW features a brand new digital camera feature – Tap Control. Tap Control is intended to help photographers wearing gloves access camera controls. If Tap Control works well, it will be an excellent addition to the already impressive features and performance of the Stylus SW camera line. I’ve had to take my gloves off in sub-freezing conditions to take pictures and it’s not good. And taking off my mountain bike gloves often means missing a photo. The Stylus 1050 SW is even set up so that when you select the Snow scene mode, Tap Control is automatically turned on.

Like all of the cameras in the Olympus Stylus SW line, the Stylus 1050 SW is waterproof and shockproof. It can withstand a drop of 5 feet to pavement (I’ve accidentally tested this with previous Stylus SW cameras), it’s waterproof to 10 feet (3 meters), and freezeproof to 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-9.44 Celsius). And for the fashion-conscious who aren’t happy with tough-guy black (I prefer the utilitarian stainless steel of the top-of-the-line Stylus 1030 SW), it’s available in four colors – blue, champagne, silver and black.

Stay tuned for my Olympus Stylus 1030 SW review. It’s been a long time coming, but it’s almost done. And I’m anxious to try out the new camera. Ski season is coming…

The Olympus Stylus 1050 SW will be available this October for $299.99 US.

How is the photo quality on this? also, some claimed to be expierencing difficulties with black dots appearing on the screen and not being covered under warranty, after underwater use.

  • Veloso says:

bought one…. it was ok, not a very good camera as my old sony t10 but at least it was waterproof.
Unfortunately, after 7 months, it got a problem, the screen got dark, i still can see the picture but not as bright and colored as a normal camera. Took it to the repais and the tech guy told me it was out of warranty and it would cost me almost the price of the camera to fix….

He told me the problem was a so called CCD. Do u have any idea?

I have an Olympus 1050sw and I noticed a strange flickering when looking thru LCD or whem making a movie, seems like the camera is trying to adjust the light, but does it in steps instead of continuous. Have anyone else noticed it?
