There’s a new, inexpensive addition to Fujifilm’s XP line of rugged waterproof digital cameras, which all feature, “Four-Way Protection,” for water, drops, cold and dust. The new 14-megapixel Fujifilm FinePix XP50 is waterproof to 16.5ft (5M), can withstand drops of up to 5 ft. (1.5M), and can handle temperatures as low as 14°F (-10°C). That means it’s safe to take to the beach, to the gym, the ski resort, you can even give it to the kids without worrying about them killing it. To improve the durability of the camera, Fujifilm designed a new “double-locking door” to protect the battery, memory card slot and cable connection ports. The XP50 has a 5x 28-140mm (equiv.) zoom lens, 2.7-inch LCD display and full HD video.
For those in the market for a new scrub a dub dub hot tub and beach camera, the Fujifilm FinePix XP50 will be available in March (2012) in orange, silver, green, blue and tough guy black. The suggested retail price for the XP50 is a very wallet-friendly $199.95. Fujifilm will also be selling and XP camera accessory kit that includes a floating camera strap, protective silicone skin and a neoprene camera pouch.
