Samsung is the first camera manufacturer to jump into truly connected cameras. All the big camera makers are putting Wi-Fi in cameras now, so you can easily transfer photos and videos to a phone or tablet. But Samsung is the only camera manufacturer with the huevos to actually make cameras with 4G mobile connectivity. I reviewed the Samsung Galaxy Camera (Samsung Galaxy Camera review), a compact superzoom, earlier this year, and I was very impressed. The new Galaxy NX (Samsung Galaxy NX camera intro) takes the connected camera to a new level by giving more experienced / demanding photographers mobile connectivity in an interchangeable lens camera with DSLR image quality. Ultimately, I think this is the direction all cameras are headed. Samsung is just the first company to step up and do it.
The Samsung Galaxy NX interchangeable lens Android camera is scheduled to be available in October (2013). The MSRP for the Galaxy NX camera body alone is US $1599.99. It will also be available in a package with an 18-55mm zoom lens for $1699.99. Of course, that price does not include mobile data service and Samsung hasn’t announced anything about carriers or mobile plans for the Galaxy NX camera. Since it takes standard SIM cards, you can use the SIM card from your Smart Phone or Tablet, or get a new one from the carrier of your choice.
