    Strength:

    - Flip flop LCD viewer - Color management (the best in is category) - Definition - Easy to use (menu) - Well built - AF assistance light in darkness - Fast AF - Battery autonomy - Nice picture quality when plugged to a TV input

    Weakness:

Barrel distorsion at minimum and maximum zoom position (same for all compact digital cameras)

Same philosophy than is little brother, the G1, but a lots of improvements. Better definition, better color, better hand handling. The best choice (actually on the market).

    Strength:

Image quality, white balance, colors, AUTO mode

    Weakness:

Build quality could be a little better, but still very good

Wow, I''m truly impressed with this camera. I''m new to the digital photography world and really only use the AUTO mode, but every picture is virtually perfect. Very sharp images, very good color, white balance is outstanding...I absolutely have no complaints. I purchased a Canon G1 last year (then sold it) because it seemed like the clarity and lighting (especially indoor shots) was very poor. I bought a SONY DSC-S85 in October last year (then sold it) and it was a good camera but a lot of pictures were out of focus, the color seemed too strong and the indoor quality was not very good in my opinion. The CANON G2 has none of these problems and I''m finally content that I have a great camera that I can use to just point and shoot. Finally, I can get out of the business of buying and selling cameras and just start taking pictures. Thanks CANON for a great camera!

    Strength:

-Superb colour and tone reproduction -Manual control inc focus -superb solid build quality -Excellent battery life -Flash hot shoe

    Weakness:

-Lens cap -Zoom over-run -No case included to protect camera

My first introduction to digital cameras was about 4 years ago with a Fuji MX700 1.5m pixel used for work, then last year I purchased my own Canon Ixus 2.1 which has given me some very nice flash portrait shots but has trouble reproducing day time landscape shots. After much researh into current digital cameras I decided on the G2 and i''m sure I have made the right choice. The results printed at 10x8 on my Epson Photo 890 have been outstanding. I will soon be purchasing another G2 as a replacement Digital Camera for my work (Graphic Design & Cad Draughting).

    Strength:

Easy to use with advanced features for a learning curve. superb sharp results with excellent color balance. Solid build with enough weight that makes it feel ''quality''. Bright screen, well laid out buttons, shutter ''sound'' useful in noisy places. etc etc...

    Weakness:

    only my own ?

My previous Digital was the Canon Ixus which although excellent for snapshots of people was no good for landscapes etc. The G2 is perfect for all types of shots with results so good that I feel my 35m is fast becoming redundant. I have easily had near photo quality A4 size prints using Epson 790 (10x8 being identical to 35m) I am fairly new to digital and I still have a long way to go to master the science of manipulation but I consider the G2 is an excellent choice for any Photographer who wants to progress to the professional SLR type, and wishes to see good results whilst still learning the ropes. I sincerely recommend it.

    Strength:

Fantastic image quality, able to shoot very close using the LCD screen to avoid parallax, the battery seems to last forever - I shot 400 photos in one day and it was still going strong. I have just about given up film since the camera produces such great photos.

    Weakness:

Really needs an external flash unit for indoor lighting. The battery is proprietary and relatively expensive at about $60. The camera looks like an amateur point and shoot camera which makes it difficult to use in professional situations and not look like an amateur.

I have been using this camera for about 6 weeks now, and have shot about 2000 images. I am truly amazed by the sharpness and color accuracy. I am able to make 11 x 14 inch prints that are extremely sharp and detailed. If the white balance is used before shooting and a little adjustment is made in Photoshop, the images produced are truly astounding.

    Strength:

Great colours, sharp detailed images most of the time. Battery lasts all day.

    Weakness:

Focus a bit hit and miss and too much noise past 2second exposures

Unless you are used to a professional SLR like the Nikon F5 you will realy like this camera. The colours are very good and the detail excellent most of the time. I set the G2 to 50 asa most of the time and this gives realy good images,no noise to speak of. For low light photography I find that the images are too noisey. Much slower than 2 seconds and the pictures are noisey and not sharp. Most of the time though it is great. Macro shots look brilliant though the focus tends to be a little hit and miss. The battery lasts all day and with a 1gig IBM microdrive I can shoot about 500 images! And all free today!(well in a sense.)

    Strength:

    White balance. Resolution flexibility.

    Weakness:

Not good for action--- too slow severe parallax error when using the viewfinder vs screen on close subjetcs.

While I would consider myself export in conventional photography I am new to digital. I have found the reviews at this sight to be most helpful and so decided to do a review. This is an amazing camera and I am thrilled with the results so far. About 2 weeks of use. In general I think all the features from color to white balance are amazing. I have produced 8 by 10 prints and cannot tell the difference between the digital and conventional film cameras.

    Strength:

Many, best pro-amateur camera out there right now.

    Weakness:

Seemingly high price-point for entry. Slow to take a picture... delay seems like forever!

Just bought the G2 after extensive research and comparison to the Nikon Coolpix 995. The G2 was $300 bucks more (at least so it seemed) for about the same quality of camera, but then I compared in better detail. 4MP vs. 3.3 32 Meg vs 16 (plus, I got a 96 meg card thrown in for free to match a Future shop ad) Can use my Canon 380ex flash Can use my canon bp-511 camcorder battery Remote included (vs 180 for 995) Rotating display, AR-coated

    Strength:

4MP, Manual features (flexability), long battery life and type II compactflash

    Weakness:

    Expensive.

Excellent camera. It''s well built, takes very high resolution pictures and is easy to use. For thoses new to digital cameras, like me, there is a learning cruve getting to know how to quickly use all the features but the auto feature is always available to fall back on if needed. I have not had prints larger than 5X7 made yet so I can''t attest to the quality of large prints taken with the G2. A great camera if it in your budget.
