Strength:

Rugged construction. Pellicle mirror allows me to see the effect the of the flash coverage effect and reflection from any surface. Any subject that blinks during a flash exposure can also be noticed as well as.

Weakness:

The 2/3 light loss can be a problem when shooting with variable aperture zoom lenses under low-light conditions with ISO 100 film or lower.

Only a Canon can beat a Canon -- its only contender is the newly-launched EOS-1v model. I have shot 500cc motorcycling and Formula One GPs with all the cameras described above and the EOS-1N RS is the best one out there with higher number of successive focus tracking pictures. Will be testing the EOS-1v for this season's championships of both series.

Strength:

Speed, Controls, Mirror lock up.

Weakness:

Weight, coupled with the booster, and an high speed lens, and you got a heavy camera to hold on to, but I got used to it.

Eos1n RS is one of the best cameras Canon have ever produced, there is only one Camera to match it and that is the 1vRS. It is the best Camera I have ever used, and proberley the best im ever likely to use. My work has improved to beyond belief. If your in the market for a profesional Camera there is only one choice you have the Eos1, every thing else is just a toy.

Customer Service

Canons after sales service is second to none, not that I have ever used it for much more than a couple off questions.

Strength:

A well built top of the line pro body with the inovative Pell. Mirror. This is the fast rugged big brother to the legendary Eos 1N. It is relatively easy to use, with adjustable 5 point auto focus control. the metering system is excptional, especially the 16 area "Matrix metering". I like it better than the 21 area of my EOS 3. (Canon should learn that more isn't always better). It also offers spot, & center weighted metering. Comfortable , and I like the weight. Personally i prefer to know I'm holding a camera, but I use a monopod for much of my work so the weight deosn't bother me. I got it on advice from a well know Sports Photo Journalist, who felt it was the finest camera ever produced

Weakness:

A-ttl is not as good as Nikon or the E-ttl of Canons new cameras.

Although the flash metering is not as good as the EOS 3, it is a fantastic "photo warrior". Canon made a major mistake in dropping it from their line. A perfect camera for anyone shooting fast paced action such as sports, or wild life. If your an intermediate or novice photographer I recommend you get used to it, especially the rs mode~it moves. Practice will show you it's true potential.

Canon, in my opinion, should have reintroduced it exactly as it is, with the E-ttl flash metering, but then no one would want a 1V. Too bad it will be remembered with the Nikon F3hp, and FM2 as a legend

Strength:

A rock Solid Camera built to take a beating. Lightnong fast. The fixed mirror reduces shake and vibration. Very Comfortable to use. Metering system is excellent

Weakness:

None really to speak of, except the flash metering isn't as good as the E-ttl system now used by Canon

A pro's camera. Especially for those interested in any fast action photography. Very durable, based on the EOS 1N, but SUPERCHARGED. Too advanced for a beginner. This is the "Spartan" warrior of the Camera world

Strength:

10 fps, quieter than 1n. No viewfinder blackout, excellent for sports/portrait work. None of the mirror slap or delay from movable mirror SLR cameras. 6ms shutter delay MUCH faster than 55ms from EOS 3, 1V and 1n.

Weakness:

2/'3 stop light loss

THE only pro camera that can do 10 frames per second on akaline AA batteries. Nikon's F5 NEEDS NiCad pack to go up to 8 fps. Does 6 fps with regular AA's. Canon's 1vHS NEEDS Nicad pack also to get 10fps. 6fps without nicad. With the nicad packs needed on the other two cameras, the cost will run up there. About 2500 for the 1v to equal the fps that the RS does with NO NICAD pack. With the extra 300, I can either save up for another L lens or burn lots of film. :)

This camera can't be beat for that "decisive" shot. Everything is in real time, no blackout. Flashwork is much easier due to the pellicle mirror. Plus the rewind speed for the RS is FASTER than the 1v with the Nicad pack. 6 seconds to rewind a 36exp roll of film versus the 8 seconds needed for the 1vHS. Nikon will do it in 4 seconds, but once again you NEED the nicad pack.

The only camera to get when you want to know if you REALLY got the shot. Nicads not required.

Customer Service

Haven't needed to use. Camera has had ZERO failures and ZERO problems.

protective rubber body coating comes unglued after extended use

I've owned 3 of the Canon EOS-1 series, and while the performance and ease of use is brilliant, the protective rubber coating has come unglued on all of them. I understand this is a common symptom, and I hope Canon will address this problem. These cameras are not cheap.
