Strength:
Focusing, metering, flash, speed, handling accuracy Body accessories
Weakness:
the optional software should be free with the body Understanding how things go needs time and trials Overall, the EOS 1v is a very attractive choice. It is not the perfect camera, no other one as well, but it gives you confidence in your picture taking decisions. Enough controls of every element affecting the operation of the camera and its companian 550ex flash and EF lenses. Results are great. Some falks reported that the metering is not accurate but I do not agree with that for the overall dsign of the system can be called tricky for the new comer. |

Strength:
100% viewfinder. Accurate and precise manual focus. Ability to change focus screens. Accurate autofocus most of the time. Adjustable eyepiece dioptre with blind. Handy and informative analogue exposure level indicator on the right side of the viewfinder. Autofocus system makes surprisingly good choices when set to fully automatic with all 45 points operating. It does not simply pick the closest point. I like the ability to place AF and shutter release on separate buttons.
Weakness:
Big, heavy, expensive. It's a bit noisy, especially now Canon has set a new standard for quietness with the EOS 30. No built in flash, no infrared AF assist light. The method of manually switching AF points is slow and clumsy, so I don't use this at all, just set the AF for centre point or all 45. Maybe what's needed is a kind of joystick operated by the right thumb, which can be moved in any direction up down or sideways. Computers have a mouse which does this, it can't be too hard to do on a camera. AF accuracy could be better in low light. It is better than the EOS 30 but still not consistent enough for reliably accurate results with f1.4 lenses wide open. RC-1 remote controller cannot be used. The EOS 1V has the best ergonomics of any camera I have ever used. The system of making adjustments by button and wheel does not seem as simple on first acquaintance as the multi dials on the EOS 30, but with familiarity the EOS1V system turns out to be faster. There are some nice touches, for instance if you set a certain aperture in Av then switch to M, the same aperture is carried over. Metering Shooting Modes Auto Focus Body Construction Currently in Production
Weakness:
It ain't cheap It is heavy with the PB-E2 After 20 years of using Canon FD products, I decided to give the EOS line a try. The 1V is a great camera. I have used it for about a month now and have sold off my entire FD collection to switch to it. There are so many ways to meter, and modes to shoot in; it should take care of every situation. I suggest getting the PB-E2 power drive booster as the standard body is a little on the short side for my hands. It has great ergonomics and feel to it. It focuses fast and true. The flash sync speed is great all the way up to 1/8000. The 1/3 step metering gives lots of choices for exposures. It is a great contemporary camera. It is easy to use for the amateur and has a good accessory line and lenses available for it. I was skeptical of auto focus, but this camera changed my mind. I highly recommend it as a step up for all Canon users. Customer Service Great phone in customer support. Have never used for repairs. Similar Products Used: Canon T90 F-1 A-1 AE-1 Program and AE-1 |

The best AF speed(on a par with EOS 3) Absolutely reliable The best ergonomics(starting from the original EOS 1) The gratest choice of Laser Mate Screens AF with F8 and even+ Closes the gap between underwater cameras and the normal one :o)
Weakness:
Uses film :o) The paint comes off easy(but that only makes it mine forever. At hte same time my F5 friends go with that "Crazy Glue" that help only with the rubber coming off all the time) Amaizing camera.Canon phylosophy in best form.Tradition and inovation together. The best and last film camera for me.Unfortunately i will probably swich to digital soon so I will not drive my Mercedes very often:o) Absolutely no comparison between F5 and my baby espetialy if you see it with 70-200 and up.FAST AND FURIOUS-thas what she is.Great focusing in darkness even without AF assistance. I can shoot one film loading and rewinding it many times and you can never say it is not shot at once. Gives grate performance till the end of the batteries(not like the Nikons which performance after 20 films is horrible). It actualy rewinds faster than F5(you have to push several buttons and livers before it start to rewind). I love Canon for giving even more than announced. For example you have AF with 100-400 IS and Kenko PRO 300 2X and the AF speed is still OK.You can do the same with any Tamron 2X also but the resolution will drop much. Not to mention that once for fun me and a friend put together two Tamron 2X and the lens(which is 1600/F22 and it still did stabilized, but that's another lens story) You can even do combination Kenko+Sigtma 50-500.To confess it is not the sharpest :o) but is a lifesaver.Just do not try it with the same brand of lens and converter. I like much the Home Point button. I do not realy think that we have some difference between 3 and 1v.But I do not use the big guns 300+ Another big plus for me is the shortest blackout time for a film camera-under 80 mS.It is so short that I can see the preflash of my 550 EX and see if the person I shoot have eyes closed.Just like 1NRS! I can speak about grate Canon system for hours :o) Customer Service Good, friendly, fast. Similar Products Used: F100,F5,EOS 3,EOS 1n,EOS 5. |

10 fps. Water and dust seals allow you to take it anywhere. Lightning quick autofocus. More lenses available than any other autofocus 35mm. Durable as can be.
Weakness:
Too heavy for some people (not me) Not cheap (worth every penny though) This is THE camera to have if you need a fast camera with fast lenses and fast autofocus. It's just d*** fast. To those who posted below that the autofocus was slow or did a lot of seeking, well, maybe you were using crappy Tamron or Sigma lenses, and that would explain it. If you put L series glass on this camera you will NOT be disappointed. I have used it in pouring rain with my 70-200 2.8L and it did just fine. Toweled it off when I got back to the car, no problems ever. The weight is obviously a valid issue for some people, but that's what you get when a camera is built this solid. All in all, if you weigh more than 100 lbs, and want to be able to capture anything and everything that may zip by you in life, this is the camera for you. Customer Service Don't know yet, haven't had a single problem. Similar Products Used: Canon EOS 3, Nikon F5 (briefly), contax RTS III (briefly) |

Packed with features and tough as a boat anchor!
Weakness:
None. The EOS-1v is simply the best 35mm SLR on the market. Coupled with exceptional USM lenses like the 50/1.4, 100/2.8 macro, and 70-200/4L I could not be happier. I was prompted to upgrade my EOS-3 bodies by the EOS-1v’s 100% viewfinder, built-in eyepiece shutter, diopter correction, exposure data recording, noticeably improved auto focusing, and better relief for eyeglass wearers. The handling is exceptional, the controls intuitive, and the build quality unsurpassable. I briefly considered switching to Nikon (F5), but ultimately Canon’s lenses won me over. I’ve become spoiled by silent USM motors, image stabilization, exceptional optical performance, and not wondering if lens A will disable feature B on body C. Worth every penny (you can pick up a mint one used for under US $1,300). Customer Service Not needed. Similar Products Used: Elan IIe, Elan 7e, EOS-3 |

photographers imagination, not the camera! Here is the juice, this camera is a "GREAT CAMERA", if you shoot canon equipment then this is the "BEST", the EOS IN and the EOS 1 are great also, the 1V is the top dog, I also use Nikon F5''s and they are awesome also, if you use Nikon the F5''s are the best from Nikon for sure, debating which BRAND is the best is a waiste of time at that level, depends on which brand you like "personal taste", ask yourself this question, when you look at the photographs taken with either camera can you TELL WHICH CAMERA WAS USED? if not? WHAT''S THE POINT? the photographs are the most important aspect of the photography, and also the fun in taking the photographs, Customer Service they are really good, Similar Products Used: EOS 1 EOS 1N''s NIKON F5''s |

Durable, fast autofocus, excelent range of lenses
Weakness:
Nothing except the coating a bit easy to scracth What can I say about this camera. It well build, fast auto focus, good range of lenses, fast film drive, 45 focus points, etc, etc. I was a Nikon user, and I a bit scare if I come to buy Canon brands, but EOS 1V change my preception. Comes from Nikon, Canon USM and IS work great for me, fast and quite without leaving the quality. Some people say Nikon is better than Canon, but in my opinion both brands are great and it depends on the person preference. I used both now and I can say nothing wrong with both brands( both excelent), but I am no prefer to use Canon Customer Service Not needed, hopefully never want to use it, Similar Products Used: Nikon F100, F5 |
