Strength:

Fast, accurate, quiet, and easy to use.

Weakness:

Command (mode) dial broke after minimal use.

I changed from the Pentax for the whisper drive and the to be able to use studio lighting(A2) I have been very happy with the Canons except for the Command dial breaking. I can't believe the flaw has not been fixed or put under an extended warranty. The A2 should hold up to all but the heaviest use by a full time outdoor, sport,or travel professional.

Customer Service

Will be trying to get the Command dial fixed. We"ll see how things go.

Strength:

faster focus than 10s. I shoot a lot of journalistic-style weddings andthe auto focus performs better in the low-light, although it could still be improved.

Weakness:

Stupid #$?! command dial breaks, but it's noted as a design flaw. Good to have backups ready.

Can't beat the price for the A2, but it'simportant to have other bodies ready. Even an Elan II is a slower, but reliable backup. I plan to upgrade to a 3 when I'm ready to switch over to the speedlite 550x for wireless strobes, but I don't think I'll give up the A2.

Customer Service

new one still working well, so haven't needed them yet...the used body not under warranty.

Strength:

Whisper quiet
5 fps
True spot metering
1/200 x sync vs. 1/125 on ElanIIE
Wide area of focusing (5 points)
True vertical grip w/ 5 control functions
All black body
Inexpensive

Weakness:

I wish the metering lock function would work like the ElanII/E.

I replaced my ElanIIE with an A2 about 1.5 years ago. I must say, it was a very wise decision. With all the strenghts listed above, I think this camera is extremely economical. I bought my A2 used for $275 and never had any problem with either the Main Control Dial or the popup flash. Maybe the original owner already had these problems fixed. Though I don't use the built in flash as much, this flash is much more powerful than the one on the ElanIIE. The whisper quiet of the film transport and mirro flap makes this an ideal camera for use at wedding ceremonies and in concert halls. I feel the lack of Canon's ETTL flash technology is insignificant. I use my flashes (540EZ and Metz 45CL4) in manual mode 90% of the time. High speed flash synch is also a joke in my mind. The guide number goes way down when you approach a sync range of 1/500 or faster. I see no reason to upgrade to the EOS 3. The 3 is almost 3 times the cost but doesn't provide much more than what I already have with my A2!!!

Strength:

The A2 is one of photography's great bargains! It's super quiet, reliable, and has a great AF system, even if it was introduced almost eight years ago. Ergonomically, like most other EOS models, it's excellent. Appreciate the lightweight when my Domke F-1X bag is full of two A2's, 540 EZ, and five EF lenses!

Weakness:

Infamous Command Dial design flaw. Most A2 owners need the dial refurbished after even moderate usage. Once repaired, it seems to be a permanent fix. Wish the VG-10 doubled as a AA battery pack. I find battery consumption quite good, as long as the CFs are set, properly.

Most eight-year-old AF SLRs have been replaced by newer ones with so-called better features. The A2 seems to have an ongoing loyal following, despite its age and Command Dial design flaw. You can get two A2 bodies for the price of an EOS-3, making it a steal. If you're contemplating getting a new one, I suggest you do so, as this SLR's production days must be numbered...

Customer Service

Terrific. I'm part of CPS, so I do get special treatment....

Strength:

light, ergonomic, very well designed interface

Weakness:

battery pack should be in grip instead of on external pack. If use external flash, its focus-assist light isn't used.
Film guide is polycarbonate, not metal.

Very good value for the money. Has close to pro features.
But many quirks:
Mirror-lockup is a 2 sec. timer. only.
Battery pack should be inside VG-10, not external.
Focus-assist light on flash doesn't work; only on-camera light works.
VG-10 isn't a great fit on camera.
Mode knob broke on me ( common problem ).
Even with warts, still a lovable camera.

Customer Service

fair. Customer service doesn't know all the intimate details.

Strength:

Fantastic value, many pro features at a fraction of the price, fast wind & focus, comfortable and light. Flash is good for a built in flash, but I advise an outboard unit.

Weakness:

Plastic body will take less abuse than its big brothers, display is not illum.

This is a great camera with all the bells and whistles at a fraction of the price of the high end pros. It will do just about everything you can throw at it and do it well.

Customer Service

I haven't had to deal with them, but I hear they are pretty good.
