EOS A2E/EOS 5
Strength:
Accurate and easy-to-use eye-controlled AF. The USM lenses are fast and quiet. The automatic features dramatically speed up your photography.
Weakness:
The eye-controlled focus did lock up and had to be corrected at a Canon service center. A great camera for a "non-professional" who prides him/herself on taking framable, high-quality photographs. A great camera with TONS of lens options. Customer Service Good -- no fees, right on time. Similar Products Used: Minolta Maxxum series |

The EOS 5 has loads of professional functions and features and state-of-the-arts AF and film winding mechanism.
Weakness:
n/a It's so versatile that it's features and functions are absolutely competent with the Pros. The AF system is so fast, accurate and whisper quiet (with the USM lenses) that I consider among the best in the market. The film winding mechanism is so quiet almost unnoticable during film rewind. Excellent reliability, my EOS 5 still operate flawlessly even after 5 years of 'cruel' usage (Not meaning dropping to the concrete floor). Strength:
Feels solid, comfortable to hold, but not heavy (I'm accoustomed to the light weight of my OM4-T). Nice choice of functions (to choose or turn off). I'm very well pleased with the evaluative metering. I;m accustomed to using a spot meter, so was dubious about letting the camera decide---surprise, surprise. Have shot about 15 rolls of slide film since August and have been very pleased.
Weakness:
Not Yet. If/when the Command Dial dies---as others have reported---I hope to be able to have a retrofit switch installed by Horizon Electronics, Union City, CA I've combined the EOS5 with the Tamron 28-300 mm and Sigma 17-35 mm, plus a 2X converter. Gives a nice range with only two lenses. Customer Service Not used Similar Products Used: Nothing that similar. All previous cameras have been Olympus---OM1 thru OM4-T |

Recently purchased this in an equipment upgrade. Very light. Grip is a valuable addition. Eye-control works great. Great value.
Weakness:
Feels a little cheap. Mode selection ring sticks out and is vulnerable (unlike the 100). Eye-control doesn't work vertically. At this point I am reasonably happy with my choice of body for an upgrade, but I haven't given it any rugged field testing yet. A bit of a trade off in that respect: the camera is light and doesn't feel very ruggedly built, but in the field I may appreciate the significantly less weight hanging from my neck. Overall, the value is very good. Similar to the few higher end EOSs, but much less money. Customer Service Haven't needed it yet Similar Products Used: Canon EOS 100QD |

Mine's an EOS 5. Had owned one since 93. It's not a bad camera once you get over the plasticky feel that comes with it. VG-10 is excellent with all the dials and buttons placed to match normal orientation photography when shooting vertical shots. Have not had any problems with the camera yet so durability is good (for a piece of plastic).
Weakness:
None so far Excellent camera for beginners to experts but not for professionals unless weight is a problem. Customer Service Canon Marketing Singapore is quite good/prompt and polite. Have not had any experience with the camera itself but have sent lenses in before (50mm F1.4USM etc) for servicing. I find that it has a number of nice features. fast motor drive, built in flash, 1/8000 top shutter speed. I have reprogrammed the focus to the depth of field button. decent manual exposure operation. Long battery life. Weighs the same as my Pentax Spotmatic with a similar lens.
Weakness:
none since purchasing it in 95. This is the best camera I have owned to date. Customer Service Not used Similar Products Used: Pentax Autofocus SLR |

Very fast AF, great whisper drive, good eye control system.
Weakness:
Very poor TTL expousures, even Nikon´s N70 is far superior, specialy with off center subjects, 1/2 stop expousure steps, +-2 ev expousure compensation, weird Flash operation, pre flash activates slaves in the studio, cant sinchro with Balcar lamps or Norman, secound curtain sync. is a custom function! making it difficult to access in certain situations. Great camera but it needs an update, with better flash system, and 1/3 step expousure, and more range in the compensator. Great vertical grip though. Customer Service Dont Know. Amazing features at low price. Almost identical to the EOS-1N.
Weakness:
Main dial hard to turn after 6 months, I expect that it will get worse. Built-in flash wouldn't pop up, sent in for service. Overall built quality is average. Do not buy the EOS-A2E, buy the imported version EOS-5, it has precise meter display in Metered Manual mode. If you are looking for value, in terms of feature, and you do not let your camera work in very tough situation, this is the right choice. Customer Service Pleasant experience with customer service. Durably built. Built in flash. Silent film advance. Reasonably good ergronomics.
Weakness:
Susecpt the left control dial is going to break- this is a well documented problem and it has been getting stiffer over the last year. Note: Get the ESO5 - same as A2E but has an over/underexposure guide in the viewfinder. ie, the A2E is a crippled verision of the EOS5 Similar Products Used: EOS 50/50e (Elan II/IIe), Nikon F70, EOS 500n |

Weakness:
No Problems I love the camera. -- But certainly if you are new to photography take a couple of lessons and you are bound to love the camera. I have the camera for 3 years. Similar Products Used: I used the Nikon F-301 Before |
