Strength:

This thing's got a good amount of weight. Not too heavy, not too light. Real quiet too. The viewfinder display is easy to read, and it's easy to see where this thing is focusing, because the area is illuminated.

Weakness:

The manual looks more like a brochure. The eye control could be better, but it works.

This thing is fun to use. It's got a number of useful custom functions, such as mirror lock, leaving the film leader out after rewind. This camera is absolutly awesome

Strength:

Durable, forgiving, full featured, comfortable and adaptable.

Weakness:

lacks the verticle eye controlled auto focus,Verticle grip lacks batttery capability. Flash sync speed(200) is limiting.

I have had great success with event photographyt, and my speciality, sports photography. The fast frame rate, autofocus capiblity, coupled with the "instant eye focus, have helped my is such fast sports such as, hockey, basketball, and racing. The 16 or so custom functions, make the EOS5, into many cameras at once, I just have to choose which I need to use. The EOS5 takes full advantage of the line of Canon EF lenses. It is a great camera.I prefer the EOS5 over the A2E beacuse of the exposure scale being more exact. A must for the conditions presented in some indoor sports venues.

Strength:

A great camera. I'd like the A2E simple control dial no electronic options to toggle through. Quiet, power film advance motor. Great eye control feature.

Weakness:

Build in flash can't reach 24mm.

The A2E opens new door of shooting efficiency. It's eerie watching as one subject after another pops into sharp focus as you scan the viewfinder's AF targets. Very sharp picture.

Strength:

Solid body, quite, good AF speed, very good metering system, sufficent flash if You are not a PRO,eye control is there but i find it useless, and of course its CANON...!!!

Weakness:

to expensve...!!!,viewfinder is not 100%,

I must say that this is THE BEST CAMERA in its own class.(witch means for advanced amatours or if You prefer SEMI-PRO).This camera really feats in Your hands...REALLY...!!! Altough it has been released in '92 some features are still "on time",e.g.AF speed, metering system and many others...!!!
I must admit that first EOS5 i bouth second hand and that was already enough to fall in love with it.After 3 months using it i got the new one...
Presently i am using Nikon F100 witch is unfortunatelly much more better than A2 however i still have EOS5 because of its great form.
So if You dont have enough money to get F100 or EOS3 (or better) ,canon EOS5 is the best alternative You have...!!!

Customer Service

Never needed...!!!
I must also say that despite of all the abuse control knob is working corectly,
unless You dont press it on the top before use.

Strength:

Numerous useful features. Light weight. Eye control feature. Metering system.

Weakness:

Slow flash synch. Shutter vibration. Dial on swith on the back.

I have written a review before, but since I got a chance to use it more on the last Europe trip, I thought I'd write some more. I dropped the camera a couple times but no problem. Took some night picture, but shutter and mirror vib was too much. Recommend using mirror-lock feature. Auto-exposure metering is absolutely right on all the time. I have own this camera for about five years, and sometimes it lock up electronically which I was forced to remove the battery to reset everything. However, it still working fine. I would give it 4.5 stars because 5 stars are for the high-end and professional cameras. Value wise, it's a five.

Strength:

Fast accurate focusing, reliable metering in all modes, quiet, a sturdy workshorse

Weakness:

flash sync only up to 1/200 which you can't get using off-shoe cord

A camera's only as good as the person behind it. In the right hands, this can be used well by any professional.

Customer Service

Never had problems. Have shot sports, concerts and landscape for six years with no trouble

Strength:

Best camera on the AF market for the BUCK$! Outstanding metering system, autofocus, 5 frames a second, vertical grip invaluable. Eye-controlled focus really wild stuff! Quick control and main control dials super neat! Custom function settings that "personalize" your camera.

Weakness:

Plastic body, lithium powered, 200th/second flash sync.

It's not necessarily an "iron horse," but I wasn't in the market for a "Hum-Vee" in the first place. For the price ($500ish), you can't beat it and Canon's line of USM lenses AF phenominally. Many AF cameras costing 2X or 3X as much can't boast 5 frames a second...3 frames in AI Servo. Several of Canon's image stabilization line of lenses are much lower priced than Nikon, which is a newcomer to that area. Lithium battery replacement will kill the hell out of a $10 bill, but Canon's external battery pack uses regular alkalines and works well, despite being a handful while shooting. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat. In my opinion, it's one of the few real values left in the world.

Strength:

Solid, heavyish build. I'm not a fan of the newer light cameras they feel too light.

ECF is superb, works brilliantly. It would be nice if it works in the vertical but the camera seems to pick the right point.

Eye controlled DOF is really nice to.

5fps drive is brilliant.

Weakness:

Remote release socket position could be better.

Great, great camera.

Strength:

Shutter speeds, Metering, VG10 is a nice bonus, it has ok focusing, it is good in pitch black light with short focal length glass, it is also very quiet.....a good feature in shooting golfers and for candids. The body survived a good drop with an old 80-200mm L lens with only the flash being shifted off-center. A quick repair at a camera store was all it needed. It makes for an "O.K." back up body.

Weakness:

I never should have bought this camera. I don't use the built in flash. I tape that thing down to keep the body more ridgid and weather resistant. The Mode dial is about to break any day now. I don't use any of the program modes that amatures find helpful. I do most of my metering with hand held meteres but on partly cloudy days, I use Apature priority and it works well but, in Man. mode, I like the view finder info that is displayed in the 1n much better. I knew that I couldn't do step incriments in 1/3's when I bought it but I'd like to be able to do that anyway. I like the beep in single shot AF mode in the 1n body. I miss that in the A2e. I don't care for the slowish 1/200th flash sinx speed. I can use all the speed I can get. I thought that I would be using this body for candid work mainly because of the ECF. I never use it. I tried it out a few times before I shut it off. It didn't work as good as I was told it would. Vertical ECF.....or rather the lack of, was a big dissapointment as well. I What I should have done was, buy a used EOS 1 body as a back up. I could have picked it up for the same amount as I paid for the A2e with the VG10.

Not bad if you are not a professional photographer.

Customer Service

Good if you are listed with them as a professional shooter. Otherwise, quite slow.....as with my experience with my 300mm.
