Ease of use. If you need a Point and Shoot - you've got it. If you need an AE type - you've got it. Need fully manual?... You get the picture.

Weakness:

Excellent for the beginner or the season shooter. Extremely flexible rig, loads of accessories. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! (Also get the "Magic Lantern Guide" for the ELAN IIe - very intuitive and covers the camera well.)

Strength:

This camera being mostly made of metal, has a solid feel. Coming with a nice 28-80 lens, the internal(but slightly weaker than I'd like) flash is calibrated perfectly for such things as interior wedding shots, medium-light situations etc.. Its near silent film rewind is handy when taking animal pictures. I've tried it with the 28-80, 80-200, as well as telescopes and other 'T' mount lenses. I had to put the BP-50 battery pack / vert grip in order to get a camera large enough for my hands, but it DOES fit.

Weakness:

No trouble yet, 'cept the usual low-light autofocussing dilemnas inherant with TTL.

While this camera is well-built, and takes FABULOUS pictures, it is not for everyone.
It's advanced functionality is wasted (partially on me) with the average photographer.
IT does, however, make picturetaking quite easy if you read and understand the manual, as well as "The ABC's of Picture-taking Ease" book. Overall, I reccommend it as an excellent SLR that really is "the big stick"

Customer Service

reasonable. Ordered accessories came in a couple of weeks.

Strength:

Outstanding camera. Takes great pictures! Easy to use. Puts my EOS Rebel to shame.

Weakness:

A little too big to be pratical in every situation. And a little too expensive for me to afford.

Great camera if you can afford it and appreciate taking outstanding pictures. Not for casual usage.

The Elan IIe is a great mid level camera. It has many of the features of the top of the line cameras for a very good price. Metering is very good. Very easy user interface to all main functions.

Solid Feel
Easier to use then Nikon. Better quality than Minolta's

Weakness:

Within one month of purchase Elan locked up and wouldn't take pictures. Sent in for service.

Has potential to be great camera, however I'm reserving judgement to see if camera is trouble free.

Customer Service

Very slow, but thorough.
Concerned about reliability going forward.

Strength:

This is my first camera and it's lasted through quite a few adventures. I like the multitude of function it offers and also the durability.

Weakness:

The decals seem to rub off pretty easy on top.

Buy It!! The price keeps falling and there's not a better middle model camera out there. For best pictures go with the Canon USM lenses.

Customer Service

Just an annual cleaning.
