Strength:

Cost efficient, feels good, easy to hold, USM lens auto-focus is incredibly fast, no nonsense interface and useage.

Weakness:

So many controls, it sometimes gets confusing or I forget that I have a certain feature activated when I don't want it. System is set up to force you to use proprietary accesories. Eye control focus is not very reliable and too slow...It takes a moment to "read" your eye and it misses too often for me. Eye control focus was not worth the extra money, I rarely use it, I wouldn't miss the feature.

Good camera for intermediate or advanced amatures. The USM lenses snap to a perfect focus faster than you can blink, and the camera's auto metering system is impeccable, under almost all conditions. The speedlight flash system that communicates with the camera does a perfect job...gives "point and shoot" a new meaning as far as getting technically perfect photos is concerned. Somehow, it knows, even under difficult metering conditions, exactly what you want in your exposure. It hasn't missed yet for me. However, After owning it for a couple years and becoming more professional, I would have, in retrospect, purchased a Nikon. The Canon's construction seems flimsy with the plastic components, and I think the optics could be better. The lens that came with the "kit" was a 28-80, it wasn't a very good lens...felt very cheap, and 80 seems like a bad place to cut off the focal length. I upgraded to a 28-105 and am much more satisfied. If you're planning on using this camera for amature or sincere hobby use, it is top of the line for you without getting into something more professional. However, If you're serious and planning on traveling as a National Geographic Photographer or shooting as a Pprofessional Photojournalist or something, I would spend the extra money for the A1 or a Nikon F5.

Customer Service

Seems to be good, although not exceptional. Could be the retailer I was going through. I dropped my Canon once and snapped the back off, it was shipped to Canon, repaired for a reasonable cost and returned to me promptly, the retailer offered me a "loaner" while mine was out.

Strength:

The eye control feature is great. You can set the depth of field to different situations.

Weakness:

Only one problem I had happened is when the film came loose in the camera on the windup spindle. I lost a few shoots in taking the film out but was unavoidable. It was very possible my fault when loading the film. I wish it did have a manual rewind in this rare case like some of the older cameras.

Overall an excellent camera with a 28-105 and 100-300 Canon lens. The performance of the camera is great even using a kenko x2 converter. I cannot afford the image stabilization lens but you can achieve the same affect using a much less costly tripod.

plenty of functions for the price, nice eye control system, 3 AF brackets, whisper drive.

Weakness:

secound curtain sync, is a custom function making it difficult to access, top dial prints fade and dissapear with time.

The best camera around this price, beats nikon´s N70, very good camera, my due respect.

Strength:

It's light and the controls are easier to use than the 650 I have and its a Canon.

Weakness:

Eye Control is a bit chancy but maybe it's just me.

This is another pleasing Canon product to use. With the 75-300 IS or the 28-105, its a dream to use.

Strength:

Light, compact with traditional controls.

Weakness:

Comparatively flimsy build. Eye control focus is unreliable.

This camera is insufficient for advanced amateur use. I was disappointed in the ergonomics and handling of the camera and upgraded to an A2E.

Strength:

Good pictures. Convenient. Fast. Very easy to use. Eye control is fun (but needs getting used to). Good indicators and displays. Ergonomics very good; feels good in your hand. Sturdy feeling.

Weakness:

No major problems with camera. Manual is very sparse.

I would recommend this camera anytime. It gives you the control and power to go full automatic, full manual or in between. The eye control focus lets you work faster (but you have to get used to the limitations). Exposure is very very good. Feel is good.

Customer Service

Very good. I emailed them about exposure compensation with and without flash and they responded immediately.

Weakness:

No spot metering (terrible ommission. Eye Control Focus does not work well. Plastic build feel a little flimsy.

The camera does its job adequately as an advanced amateur camera. However, it's build has a lot to be desired and it performance charactertics (ie. 2.5 fps motorspeed) not comparable to other manufacuteres mid-range cameras.

Strength:

Completely problem free. Bonus: Canon donates to Nature Conservancy which made the decision to buy this easier.

Weakness:

Zero.

Despite an absent email customer service, this camera is still definitely worth the money, especially since it will end up costing me less than $500 after the rebate (if Canon ever writes me back!).

Customer Service

Emailed Canon regarding rebate offer...they haven't replied yet and it has been two weeks.
